The Faculty of Beha

Job description

The Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences of the University of Groningen invites applicants for a Researcher in the unit of Experimental Psychology.

The researcher is expected to participate in an ongoing research program on the adaptive nature of working memory and its neural correlates. Furthermore, the researcher is tasked with drafting a comprehensive laboratory manual detailing the various procedural steps that need to be taken to conduct (physiological) research at the institute.

There might be an opportunity to engage in further teaching activities, particularly in a course on models of cognition in the Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences (BCN) research master program, and seminars related to research skills.

The University of Groningen is a research university with a global outlook, deeply rooted in Groningen, City of Talent. Quality has had top priority for four hundred years, and with success: the University is currently in or around the top 100 on several influential ranking lists.

The Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences is a centre of knowledge focusing on individuals and society. We study issues relating to human behaviour, and the relationships between people and society as a whole. This includes the study of how people function under normal circumstances, but also of the problems encountered by individuals or groups, and how to resolve or prevent these. Our Faculty employs over 800 members of staff. The Department of Psychology offers bachelor’s and master’s programs in both Dutch and English to over 3,000 students. Our department's student population is very international; more than half of our students are non-Dutch.

Within the Department, the unit of Experimental Psychology pursues a research program focused on the cognitive underpinnings of human behaviour, as well as their neurophysiological correlates. Available lab facilities include multiple behavioural, eye-tracking, and EEG labs, as well as access to an fMRI scanner housed in the University Medical Centre. Our unit currently has over 30 members of staff at all levels, from PhD candidates to professors. We teach not only in the Psychology bachelor program, but also in the top-rated BCN research master, the Computational Cognitive Science master, and the Applied Cognitive Neuroscience master.
