Job description

The Faculty of Geosciences is looking for a colleague that will hold the new position of Professor of Multilevel Sustainability Policy and Governance. This full-time professorship is affiliated with the Environmental Governance group of the department of Sustainable Development, also known as the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development.

Within this position, you will bring an ambitious research agenda that generates new insights into how multilevel policy and governance can support just sustainability transformations and much-needed innovative changes in society. The current central research themes of the Environmental Governance group are the role of actors and institutions in governance, the normative foundations of governance (justice and democratic legitimacy) and the relationship between governance and societal transformations. The new professor will add to and further develop this research agenda and lead research programmes on sustainability governance from local to European levels.

In addition, you will enhance the scope and quality of our teaching programmes and you will closely collaborate with experts in academia as well as with public and private actors in the development of project proposals, interdisciplinary education, and joint efforts for societal impact. You will also contribute to the management and successful leadership of the Environmental Governance group and of the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development.

The chair holder will be appointed for 0.8-1.0 full-time equivalent. Depending on the extent of management responsibilities, the appointee is expected to spend around 50% of their time on research, 30% on teaching and 20% on management.
