PhD Candidate - Care and support for people with dementia: quantitative research (1,0 fte)

Job description

Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) invites applications for a fully- funded, four-year PhD position at the Health Economics research group.

Job description
The number of people with dementia in the Netherlands will increase strongly, and people with dementia need much care and support. Hence, dementia poses challenges for individuals and for society. To support decision making at the national and the local level, ESHPM is working with Amsterdam Data Collective to build the website which describes variation in care and support for people with dementia in the Netherlands. This research is commissioned by the Ministry of Health.

You will help to expand the insights in the prevalence of dementia, care use trajectories, well-being of people with dementia and their loved ones. For this, you analyze linked administrative data for the entire Dutch population and novel data sources such as linked data from surveys and cohort studies. You will use these data to contribute to understanding key decisions and challenges for people with dementia, their family and society. The analyses will be published on and in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

You combine econometric analyses with deep insight in the medical and policy context to draw conclusions that are both scientifically sound and policy relevant. The ability to combine these skills is valuable if you aspire a future career in academia, government, or the industry.

You will be part of the Health Economics research group at the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management, and the economics of long-term care theme group (website). Your supervisors are Dr. Judith Bom and Dr. Pieter Bakx. We advise you on opportunities to present your work in scientific articles and at conferences, to take courses, to arrange a research visit abroad, and to liaise with policymakers and healthcare professionals. Thus, this position enables you to quickly establish a broad network in health economics and policy.

Finally, you will teach in the education programmes of Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (about 15% of your time).
