Job description

Are you passionate about helping university students develop presentation and reflection skills? Do you have experience with teaching international and multidisciplinary groups of young adults in their academic, professional and personal development?

If so, the Education and Learning Sciences (ELS) Group is offering a temporary position for a (skills) teacher (0.5-0.7 fte) for the academic year 2023-2024. You will mostly train presentation and reflection skills in various Bachelor courses. As a teacher, you take the lead in front of a group of students and cooperate with colleagues to organize the classes and actively participate in course innovations. You can support students in a stimulating way to identify their personal learning goals and guide them in their development. In all ELS courses, students from all over the world and from different study programs participate, which requires experience in dealing with diversity, both culturally as well as disciplinary. You do not mind taking up different tasks and you experience rotating tasks as an opportunity to learn from. You are an active member of the ELS teacher team.
As a teacher you will be (co)responsible for:
  • teaching Bachelor skills courses, mostly presentation and reflection skills in various BSc programs; including the organization, co-design and evaluation of the courses;
  • further development of (skills) courses in terms of incorporating contemporary insights, and/or experimenting with different teaching methods.

Requirements

  • you have an MSc degree in education and/or training and affinity with life sciences or an MSc in the life sciences/interdisciplinary sciences including teaching affinity and experience;
  • you aspire to contribute to university students’ academic, personal and professional development;
  • you are motivated to broaden and deepen your experience with teaching;
  • quality of education and teaching receives your attention and you can show this by examples of relevant (work) experience;
  • you like and master the combination of, on the one side, co-creating new ideas and experimenting with educational innovations as part of a team, and, on the other side, working more independently e.g. to prepare for your own classes;
  • you have excellent communication skills, both orally and written, and you are fluent in both Dutch and English;
  • you show an open minded and pro-active attitude and are well-organized;
  • you preferably possess a BKO (Basis Kwalificatie Onderwijs) or a comparable teaching certificate, or are willing to obtain it if your teaching position within ELS is continued;
  • you are available starting at October 30th to join ELS’ teachers team and be introduced to our department and courses.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between € 3.226,- and € 5.090,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10). This position is for 1 year and a minimum of 0.5 fte. Additional tasks (0.2 fte) are negotiable (for example, teaching Project Management Skills, student coaching).
