PROJECT
As a postdoctoral researcher you will work on the Erasmus+ project "Eye-teach-stats" conducted by the University of Applied Sciences Heidelberg (Germany) in collaboration with KU Leuven (Belgium) and University of Applied Sciences Utrecht (Netherlands).
The “Eye-tech-stats" project focuses on strengthening data literacy—a key competence in today's data-driven and digitalized world. In this project, teaching vignettes are developed (based on eye-tracking research) and used to train mathematics teachers in the processes of diagnosis and support in the classroom. Courses for teacher training will be developed and systematically researched in the project. As a postdoctoral researcher you will have the opportunity to actively contribute to this important area of research and to develop innovative solutions. Our international Erasmus+ team will support you in realizing your full potential and further developing your research skills.
RESEARCH GROUP CORE TEAM
As a member of the core team of the research group Mathematical and Analytical Competence of Professionals (abbreviation WAVP), you will contribute to the development of this research group. You will contribute to the anchoring of the research in (inter)national networks. You will share developed knowledge within and outside the HU in various forms, such as presentations at conferences and in publications. You cooperate with fellow researchers, field partners, students and teachers, especially from the teacher training programs (primary and secondary teacher education). In this way, you contribute to sustainable anchoring of knowledge and insights derived from our research group. Within statistics, data play an increasingly important role. You will focus on statistics within the domain of arithmetic-mathematics. The target group of the research group is not only citizens but also professionals such as teachers.
PROFESSIONAL ENVIRONMENT
The research group WAVP is an inspiring research group where you can contribute to practice-based research in the triangle of science, education and professional practice. The research group contributes to the development of innovative learning situations to further develop the abilities of people in their role as citizen and/or (future) professional in line with the social and technological transformations taking place in the increasingly digital society. Key concepts include numeracy, mathematics, statistics, digitization, participation, didactics, primary, secondary and tertiary education, and adult education. Research, development, and training take place in projects on mathematics, statistics, and numeracy at home and abroad. More information about the WAVP research group can be found here. The research group falls under the Knowledge Center Learning and Innovation. The research group meets monthly on Fridays.
The knowledge center consists of ten research groups, in which sixteen professors are active. The staff of the knowledge center includes a director, professors, lecturer-researchers, program managers and a team of support staff. The professors are supporting forces of the knowledge center and experts within their field. They apply knowledge and experience to scientific research and to innovating professional practice. The professors shape the substantive tasks together with a team of researchers, who often also continue teaching at one of the institutes of University of Applied Sciences Utrecht.
You have a strong affinity with state-of-the-art (educational) developments around eye-tracking and/or statistics education or a willingness to quickly engage in it. You are motivated and able to provide solutions that help professional practice, society and education. You are flexible, can switch quickly, and enjoy working in a dynamic environment in which you collaborate with various stakeholders, nationally and internationally. In your letter we would like to read your vision on the possible role of data, eye-tracking, and statistics in the connection between science, education and professional practice. You have demonstrated that you can work well with different types of professionals and work on common goals with positive energy.
