Job description

The Health Data Science group at the Department of Medical Informatics of the Erasmus MC is looking for a software developer with proven experience in R programming and modern web development like cloud technologies, containerization and DevOps practices.

The Department is establishing a coordination centre for the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Medicines Regulatory Network to provide timely and reliable evidence on the use, safety and effectiveness of medicines for human use, including vaccines, from real world healthcare databases across the European Union. This capability is called the Data Analysis and Real World Interrogation Network (DARWIN EU®).

You will be responsible for designing, developing, documenting, and maintaining R code that will be executed against health data in this network that is standardized to the OMOP Common Data Model (OMOP-CDM). This data model is maintained by the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics initiative. In addition, you will be involved in the development and maintenance of web applications that support the execution of the requested studies. Your work will enable the use of health data at an unprecedented scale in Europe and will facilitate the execution of impactful studies to improve patient care. Your responsibilities will be wide ranging, and besides development work you are expected to collaborate on specific open-source projects, engage in gathering requirements, prioritization, presenting your work to end users and other stakeholders, and sharing your technical expertise with other developers.

Requirements

We are looking for an experienced software developer with proven experience in R and modern web development like cloud technologies, containerization and DevOps practices with a higher educational background.
  • Knowledge of GIT, and software development best practices are required for this position.
  • The web development tech stack you will be working with includes: Java, Spring Boot, React, TypeScript.
  • Candidates with experience of the OMOP CDM and OHDSI tools are preferred but this is not a requirement.

You can work independently and have excellent written and verbal English communication skills. You are a real team player and are highly motivated to contribute to public health.

Conditions of employment

  • You will receive a temporary position for 1 year.
  • The gross monthly salary amounts a maximum of € 5.088,- (scale 10 ), depending on your level of education and relevant education, based on a workweek of 36 hours.
