The Faculty of Law of Maastricht University is looking for PhD researchers.

Job description

Four 4-year fulltime paid PhD positions are available at the Faculty of Law of Maastricht University. As a PhD researcher, you will carry out independent academic research under the supervision of professors and researchers of the Faculty of Law, resulting in a PhD thesis. At least 80% of the position will be dedicated to research and not more than 20% to teaching activities. To apply, you will prepare a research proposal that fits in the Faculty’s research programme. PhD researchers join the department connected to the theme of their research proposal. PhD researchers join the Maastricht University Graduate School of Law.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who:
  • hold a relevant Master degree, preferably completed with excellent grades. Final-year (master) students are (likewise) welcome to apply if they have proven research skills;
  • are highly motivated and creative;
  • can demonstrate relevant writing skills, proven, for example, by the quality of their master thesis;
  • possess first-rate analytical skills;
  • have an excellent research idea;
  • have excellent written and oral command of English and/or Dutch.

What we offer

As a PhD candidate at Faculty of Law, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:
  • Good employment conditions. You will be employed as a PhD candidate with corresponding salary from € 2.770,00 to € 3.539,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 0,8 or 1,0 FTE. Upon a positive evaluation, an extension of 3 years will follow.
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
