Are you motivated to contribute to innovative and impactful accounting research and education at a top level? Consider joining us at the Erasmus School of Economics. We are looking for a new colleague to strengthen our accounting research group and teaching programmes and welcome applications for the position of assistant professor in all areas of accounting.

As an assistant professor of accounting, you will join the Accounting, Auditing and Control section of the Department of Business Economics at ESE. The accounting group has grown considerably in the past decade and consists of around 20 research-active faculty members who regularly publish in the top 5 accounting journals. The department has a strong research focus and an international orientation, as evidenced by our publications, research collaborations with academics at leading U.S. schools, editorial positions, an international seminar series and several conferences, and U.S. style Ph.D. programme.

While offering separate teaching programmes at the bachelor’s, master’s, and executive level, we form a joint research group – the Erasmus Accounting Research Group – with the accounting department of the Rotterdam School of Management. Working closely together, the Erasmus Accounting Research Group has established itself as one of the leading and most diverse accounting groups in Europe.

Job description
Your main tasks as an assistant professor are to conduct high-quality research and teaching. You have the freedom to develop your own innovative research line within the field of accounting. We also value and encourage collaboration within the research group. Further, you will be teaching in the Bachelor and/or Master’s programmes and supervising student theses at ESE.

The core tasks include:
  • Conducting impactful academic research aimed at top-tier academic journals – independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Teaching accounting courses (in English) at a Bachelor’s and Master’s level.
  • Contributing to the further development of the department and EUR.

Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague who:
  • Has or is close to obtaining a Ph.D. in accounting or a related relevant discipline.
  • Can demonstrate the potential for outstanding achievements in research and teaching in the fields of accounting.
  • Is enthusiastic and committed to contributing to the research and teaching programmes of ESE.
  • Is a good team player who will contribute to the development of the research group.
  • Has excellent proficiency in English. Dutch language skills are not necessary but valued.

Conditions of employment

You will work in an internationally oriented environment within a large and enthusiastic research group. The working conditions are in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

Salary is subject to training and experience and may vary from a minimum of € 4.332 gross per month and up to a maximum of € 5.929 gross per month (scale 11 CAO NU), based on a full-time contract of 38 hours.

Tenure track assistant professor positions involve a six-year tenure and promotion track, with generous extensions for parenthood. Tenure and promotion decisions are based on individual performance, principally in research and teaching. Early tenure opportunities are available for those on track to meet the criteria for tenure and promotion at the end of the track.

Your research is supported by a personal research budget and funding from the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (e.g., for research visits, experiments, data). We have access to excellent facilities, including most major databases (WRDS, CRSP, Compustat, Eikon, Bloomberg, I/B/E/S, Thomson One Banker, TAQ, etc.). Tenured assistant professors qualify for generous additional research funding to support you in reaching the tenure and promotion goals. Teaching loads are moderate, leaving ample time for research.

Rotterdam is a pleasant and lively harbour city in the west of the Netherlands with 625,000 inhabitants. It provides attractive living conditions for international faculty. English is widely spoken, and air, road, and railway connections with major European and U.S. cities are excellent. The standards of healthcare and education in the Netherlands are high, while the costs are low relative to Anglo-Saxon countries.
