Job description

In the coming years, Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) intends to strengthen its European and international research and education profile, by being an active partner in international education and research related consortia and networks. As part of this ambition Erasmus University wants to establish a permanent project- and programme managers pool to deal with complex and large European and National funded projects. In this setting, we are looking for a project manager for the UNIC programme.

UNIC, the European University of Cities in Post-Industrial Transition, is a transnational alliance of ten universities: the Koç University (Turkey), the Ruhr University Bochum (Germany), the University College Cork (Ireland), the University of Deusto (Spain), the University of Liège (Belgium), the University of Oulu (Finland), Malmo University (Sweden), the University of Lodz (Poland), and the University of Zagreb (Croatia).

UNIC was formed as response to the European Commission’s call to create bottom-up networks of universities throughout Europe (“European Universities”). Through the transnational alliances built under the European University Initiative the European Commission aims to enhance the quality and international competitiveness of European higher education, while promoting European values and identity.

UNIC’s ambition is to develop innovative and sustainable means of university collaboration that boost student and staff mobility while fostering social inclusion and further social impact.

Job description
We are seeking a highly motivated education project manager to join our team at Erasmus University. As a project manager, you will play a crucial role in shaping and transforming the future of education by implementing innovative strategies and technologies.

Role and responsibilities:
You will co-create two of the main pillars of the UNIC campus: 1) the UNIC Teaching and Learning Centre and 2) the Community of Researchers and Educators. As project manager you will be expected to:
  1. Support faculties as they design and develop cutting-edge educational programs, technologies, tools, and initiatives that enhance student learning experiences.
  2. Collaborate with faculties to identify and integrate innovative teaching methodologies, instructional technologies, and assessment methods.
  3. Support faculties in the adoption of innovative digital education solutions.
  4. Engage with students, faculty, and administrators, to gather feedback and input for continuous improvement of educational practices.
  5. Lead and participate in local and international cross-functional teams to develop and implement institution-wide educational initiatives.
  6. Stay abreast of Dutch and international educational policies, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance.
  7. Collaborate with external partners, industry professionals, and educational institutions to foster collaborations and share best practices in education innovation.

Requirements

We are looking for someone with the following qualifications:
  • Proven experience (minimum 2 years) at a Dutch Higher education institution with focus on innovation, or educational technology roles
  • Has obtained a Masters degree
  • Fluency in English and Dutch (both written and spoken) is required
  • Good understanding of current and emerging trends in higher education, pedagogies, Open Science and instructional technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to support the design and development of innovative educational programs and initiatives
  • Proficiency in utilizing educational technologies, learning management systems, and online collaborative tools
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams effectively and to foster a positive culture
  • Clear communication and good interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and foster relationships with external partners
  • Demonstrated ability to think proactively, creatively, critically, and strategically to drive educational innovation.
  • Not afraid of trying new things and push the boundaries of digital learning

Conditions of employment

We offer you an internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with excellent working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU).

The start date of this position is 1 January 2024 and you will be based in General Management Directorate (ABD). This position is for 0.8 FTE. The salary is dependent on your experience and knowledge and ranges from a minimum of € 3.226 to a maximum of € 5.090 gross per month (scale Scale 10), in accordance with the CAO-NU. The contract is entered into for the duration of 1 year and can be extended if performance is good and the organizational circumstances remain unchanged.

The General Management Directorate

The General Management Directorate (Algemene Bestuursdienst, ABD) is the central staff organisation responsible for the organisation and support of EUR’s policy and administration at the institutional level. ABD supports the Executive Board in fulfilling its responsibilities with regard to the quality, accessibility and financing of EUR’s education and research programmes. ABD handles the joint design of integrated policy, ensures the timely submission of policy within decision-making procedures and the implementation of the adopted policy measures and constantly monitors and evaluates developments in the interest of further improvement. ABD comprises the departments of Academic Affairs (AZ), Corporate Planning & Control (CPC), Administrative Affairs (BZ), Legal Affairs (JZ) and Strategy Office (SO). The independent university publication Erasmus Magazine also falls under ABD in organisational terms.

The management directorate is headed by the Director of the General Management Directorate, who also serves as Secretary of the Executive Board.
