Job description

Are you a cultural or media studies scholar with a broad range of interests and a global outlook? Does your research focus on visual or material culture? Are you an inspiring teacher who is motivated to contribute to teaching and research programmes that are beneficial to the cultural sector? And do you value collaboration across the boundaries of your own expertise, study programmes and lines of research? Then this might be the job for you.

Today's world requires critical thinkers, people who can define new directions for research and teaching that respond to the changes and challenges of our times. As an Assistant Professor of Arts and Culture Studies, you will join a diverse group of dedicated scholars, shape the field of arts and culture studies, and flourish in a friendly and vibrant academic community.

The Literary and Cultural Studies section at the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures is welcoming applications from specialists in visual, material or media studies who can solidify or complement our profile and strengths in research, teaching and societal impact. As an Assistant Professor, you will be part of a section with thirteen tenured staff, four non-tenured staff and fourteen PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers. Your research will be embedded in the Radboud Institute for Culture and History (RICH), where you will contribute to a research group of your choice. Because of the research directions we are developing, affinity with the field of environmental humanities, digital humanities, cultural policy, or tourism and cultural heritage studies would be an asset. You are a productive and active researcher who is developing research projects, writing, publishing and collaborating on themes that contribute to RICH’s mission. You will seek external funding and actively participate in public engagement activities. You will participate in working groups, committees and/or project groups within the department, programme or faculty.

About 60% of your working time will be devoted to teaching in English or Dutch. At the Bachelor's level, you will teach in the BA degree programmes in Arts and Culture Studies and other BA programmes such as the Faculty's minors. At the Master's degree level, you will similarly teach in and contribute to the Master's programmes in Arts and Culture Studies (e.g. the specialisations Tourism and Culture, Creative Industries, or Cultural Policy and the Business of Art) and in the Research Master's programme in Historical, Literary and Cultural Studies (e.g. the specialisation in Art and Visual Culture). You will supervise students writing their papers and theses, participate in educational support activities such as tutoring, and actively contribute to the development of the curriculum.

You will also take on management tasks within the study programmes, the department, or the research institute (e.g. memberships of programme committees or examination boards, or being the coordinator of a RICH research group).
