Job description

Organisations in most private and public sectors, in areas as diverse as manufacturing, services or creative industries, share a pressing need for innovation. However, marketing these innovations effectively and in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN) is something that many organisations struggle with. As an Assistant Professor of Responsible Marketing at TU Delft you will develop your own profile, helping organisations how to market new products responsibly and successfully.

You will develop a distinctive research line for which you will attract funding, and work with PhD students that you will co-supervise. Contributing to world-class education, you will also be teaching Bachelor and Master students, in existing or new courses (such as the new elective Master course "Responsible Marketing" in the Strategic Product Design (SPD) master) to expand and innovate our curriculum.

The Marketing and Consumer Research (MCR) section at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering will be your home base. This section studies sustainable consumer behavior and new product marketing for a circular economy. Marketing and consumer behavior are important topics for designers and innovators in our design school and beyond in order to develop new solutions that customers will accept. We are a lively and engaged group of people, exploring new creative approaches to teaching and research. As a group we have built a strong track record on marketing and consumer behavior research, working on launch strategies, sustainable consumer behavior, sustainable business model innovation, design and marketing strategies for a circular economy, and responsible and sufficiency marketing. We are part of a strong network of industries and businesses and participate actively in relevant communities within the academic world, and we are open to collaborate with networks that you may bring in. We are currently well-connected to marketing (EMAC), consumer bavior (ACR), innovation management (IPDMC/PDMA) and sustainability (PLATE) networks.

Requirements

You are driven by working at the forefront of responsible new product marketing, helping to boost innovations that are good for people, profit and the planet. You enjoy working with people from multiple disciplines, including business, technology and design disciplines. You have good communication skills, which you can also put to use when teaching and mentoring students, as well as for inspiring and convincing stakeholders of your research and funding proposals. Of course, you are keen to grow these and other competencies during your tenure track!

 

You also have:

  • A PhD in marketing/consumer behavior, strategic design, business administration, economics, psychology or another relevant subject, and multiple relevant publications in high quality marketing and/or innovation management journals. You have experience in teaching (responsible) marketing, and you are willing to submit research proposals on responsible marketing to attract funding for PhDs and post-docs.
  • A keen interest in interdisciplinary research and education, and the motivation to work in the technological environment of TU Delft, and design environment of IDE.
  • A good command of spoken and written English, as you will be working in an internationally diverse community. If there is no command of Dutch language, you should have the willingness to learn the language, as your home base at TU Delft is bilingual.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 8 jaar.

This position is offered as an Academic Career Track position (0.8 – 1.0 FTE). During the Academic Career Track, we expect you to grow towards an Associate Professor position within a maximum of eight years, for which a position will be available. With other Academic Career Track colleagues, you will participate in the Academic Career Track Development programme, where you are offered ample opportunities to develop yourself in the areas of Education, Research, Societal Impact & Innovation, and Leadership & Organisation. You will regularly discuss your development and results with senior staff based on a personalized development plan and performance criteria agreed upon at the start of your Academic Career Track. You will start with a temporary contract that will be converted to a permanent contract no later than 12 -18 months after a positive evaluation, based on continuous confidence in your development potential and fit in the organisation.

Inspiring, excellent education is our central aim. We expect you to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years if you have less than five years of teaching experience. This is provided by the TU Delft UTQ programme as part of the Academic Career Track Development programme.

TU Delft sets high standards for the English competency of the teaching staff. The TU Delft offers training to improve English competency. If you do not speak Dutch, we offer courses to learn the Dutch language within three years.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
