Would you like to be part of an innovative and inspiring organization? At QuTech, we are looking for a Principal Investigator in quantum optics theory.

Job description

We are looking for an excellent theoretical scientist with recognized expertise in quantum optics and quantum networks to join QuTech as a Group Leader. Ideally, you find inspiration in collaborations with quantum information experimentalists, engineers, and theorists.

You will be appointed within the QuTech Career Track, with the expectation of a permanent, tenured, position following a positive evaluation after 1 ½ years. Consideration of applications for a tenured position are possible for exceptionally well-qualified and more senior individuals. You can expect a start-up package to enable a quick start of your research program and group.

At QuTech (a collaboration between TU Delft and TNO) over 300 scientists and engineers work together to develop scalable prototypes of quantum computers and a quantum internet, in a highly interdisciplinary environment. The position is embedded in the Quantum Internet division, which focusses on quantum networks and distributed quantum computation. Together with the Departments of Bionanoscience (BN) and Quantum Nanoscience (QN), QuTech constitutes the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience at Delft, creating further collaboration opportunities.

If you are motivated to teach, it is possible to participate in the university curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate level, in collaboration with the faculty of Applied Sciences.

This position is established as part of the Quantum Software Consortium (QSC) program by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science through the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research. QSC is hosted by three research clusters: QuTech, Leiden University, QuSoft (a collaboration of the University of Amsterdam, CWI and Free University Amsterdam). You will be expected to contribute to the QSC for the duration of the grant (2027), and to find synergy with related research in the Quantum Internet Division at QuTech.
