Job description

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding job in a dynamic setting? The department of Psychology of the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences is looking for an full professor, specifically within the domain of Clinical Psychology.

Our program conducts fundamental research to better understand, assess, and treat psychopathology, and puts these research findings to the test by running trials. The group works closely together with clinical practice, and informs this practice about new and effective psychotherapies. It has several research lines: (1) the neurobiological and psychological underpinnings of emotional memory and psychopathology, (2) measuring treatment effects for a wide variety of psychiatric disorders, (3) improving treatment utility of clinical assessment, especially for personality disorders (4) the psychobiology of medical disorders, (5) habit formation and substance use disorder, and (6) deception and psychopathy. The program group provides (English-language) education in clinical psychology in the bachelor's phase, as well as a (Dutch-language) Master’s degree, which in turn provides access to the post-master training programs in the psychological professions in healthcare; a master's degree in clinical forensic psychology; and specialized courses in the Research Master of the Department.

What are you going to do?
The current job opening concerns a structural chair that is focused on empirical research into the etiology and treatment of complex psychopathology. The mission of this chair is to develop more effective treatments for complex psychopathology by conducting research that provides an innovative contribution to theory development. This may include factors such as emotional neglect, childhood trauma, attachment problems, or personality development, with the focus on the fundamental psychological concepts and processes that can pave the way to stronger interventions. You will teach courses within the Bachelor and Master program of Clinical Psychology. You are expected to maintain and fund an independent program of research. A commitment to excellence in teaching as well as the proven potential to attract external funding is essential. You are expected to undertake general administrative and organizational duties both within and outside the Faculty.

Requirements

The candidate should have expertise in fundamental experimental research, but experience applied clinical research is emphasized, along with clinical experience. The candidate has an open and transparent communication style, and can integrate different lines of research, and stimulate collaboration and cohesion within the group.

You have:
  • Earned doctorate in Clinical Psychology
  • Record of publications and funding commensurate with appointment at the rank of Full Professor
  • Demonstrated national or international leadership and scholarship in Clinical psychology
  • Administrative experience
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • The candidate must have a fluent command of both Dutch and English or be expected to acquire it within 3 years of taking up the post (language courses are provided, if applicable)
  • Highly desirable: A clinical registration, or comparable extensive clinical expertise

Conditions of employment

We offer permanent employment upon a satisfactory evaluation.

The employment contract will be for 38 hours per week. The gross monthly salary based on full-time employment (38 hours per week) ranges from €6.648,- up to a maximum of €9.680,- (professorial scale 2). This is exclusive 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% end-of-year bonus. The starting salary will be based on qualifications, expertise, and relevant experience in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities.
