Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.) has a vacancy for an Assistant Professor in Strategic Management, with expertise in innovation management and/or international business. 60% of the time is reserved for teaching activities and 40% is dedicated to research. You are expected to teach in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes of U.S.E.

Your job
As Assistant Professor in Strategic Management, you will do research and teach courses at Bachelor's and Master's level offered by U.S.E.’s Entrepreneurship section – which is home to our school’s researchers in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Strategic Management, International Business, and Marketing. We are looking for a colleague who can contribute in the areas of strategic management, and/or its related disciplines (innovation management, international business). However, if you have expertise in any of our section’s disciplines, you are welcome to apply.

You will spend 40% of your time on quantitative research, to be published in high-quality academic journals. The U.S.E. research institute encourages collaboration with researchers from other disciplines, and research activities that address societally relevant issues. You are encouraged to indicate how you can collaborate with the current staff at our section.

You will take care of good teaching in accordance with our academic and departmental guidelines. You will teach in (some of) the areas of strategic management, innovation, international business, and competitive strategy. Furthermore, you will supervise Bachelor's theses, Master's theses and other research projects by students.

Requirements

We are looking for a colleague with strong research skills and enthusiasm for teaching. Furthermore, you have multiple of the following qualifications:
  • a PhD degree in economics, management or a related discipline;
  • a strong track record (or pipeline for younger candidates) in research as demonstrated among others by publications and citations in international recognised journals;
  • strong quantitative skills in econometrics, social sciences and/or data science;
  • (some) teaching experience in an international academic environment with proven ability to inspire students from undergraduate to graduate levels, apparent from positive assessments by students and peers;
  • strong communication and coordination skills;
  • strong command of spoken and written English;
  • ability to teach in Dutch is a plus.

Conditions of employment

We offer:
  • a position for 18 months, with the expectation of being tenured after 18 months;
  • a working week of 36 - 40 hours and a gross monthly salary between €4,332 and €5,929 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale 11 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU);
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.
