Innovative aircraft design is crucial to delivering step changes in aircraft performance. TU Delft takes the lead in designing new aircraft configurations, like the Flying-V. Furthermore, we research how novel technologies such as distributed propulsion, electrification, and hydrogen can impact the future of aviation.
As Assistant Professor in Aircraft Design, you will participate in the process that moves us towards a more sustainable use of aviation. The main approaches to the above are holistic design methods and computational design with the objective of assessing the application of novel technologies to the aircraft architecture and its performance.
In this role, you will contribute to the education mission of our faculty. Teaching in the Bachelor and Master of Science program, assisting with the end-of-Bachelor Design-Synthesis Exercise, and providing coaching for MSc students in their graduation thesis.
You are expected to develop your vision and your own research line, plan and conduct research, and build and supervise your team of students and collaborators. To realise your research, you will build a portfolio of partners and apply for funding from the Dutch Research Council (NWO), European Research Council (ERC), and other schemes and initiatives at the national and European levels. Finally, you will disseminate your advancements and achievements through scientific publications and participate in conferences and workshops.
Committing to education by teaching and student mentoring is a prerequisite as you will be contributing to world-class education. Furthermore, you share a keen interest in aircraft design and technology, the common denominator in the FPP section. You are comfortable with software development and operating modern digital design and simulation solutions. A good deal of creativity to find solutions to engineering or design problems is appreciated. Good communication skills and ability to work in a team.
