Job description
The challenge
Dutch construction firms need to extend warranty periods for asphalt roads, driving a push for better road quality. The ASPARi research unit, along with 10 contractors and Rijkswaterstaat, aims to develop technology-driven solutions for monitoring and enhancing asphalt construction. A challenge is the reliance on GPS, which has limitations in urban areas, tunnels, and wooded regions.
The mission The project's mission is to develop a sensor fusion method for accurate real-time positioning of paving equipment. The goal is to achieve consistent <50 cm accuracy without RTK bridge assistance, minimal sensitivity to site conditions, and near-real-time positioning.
The outcome The project aims to create a working prototype that improves the accuracy, reliability, and robustness of the real-time paving monitoring system. This enhancement will lead to better road quality, reduced material usage, and improved productivity.
We seek MSc graduates with a background in sensor fusion, positioning systems, and/or computer vision.
Knowledge of real-time systems and operator support systems is advantageous.
Strong Dutch and English language skills, communication, teamwork, initiative, and problem-solving are essential.
Prior knowledge in road design and construction is beneficial.
Conditions of employment
We offer a very challenging position for two years in an inspiring multidisciplinary and international environment.
salary of € 2618 gross per month;
a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.3%;
solid pension scheme;
Minimum of 29 holidays in case of full-time employment.
A tailor-made post-master design program that has an educational component (~50%) as well as a design project (~50%);
On completing the program, you will receive a certified degree. You will be entitled to use the academic degree EngD and will be registered as a Technological Designer in the Dutch register kept by the Royal Institution of Engineers in the Netherlands (KIVI).
