Job description

The NanoComputing Research Lab in Integrated Circuits (IC) group within the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is a leading research group dedicated to pushing the boundaries of knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence and computational physics. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled Post-Doctoral Researcher to join our dynamic team to work on the design and implementation of Oscillatory Neural Networks (ONNs) for solving combinatorial optimization problems.

Project

The successful candidate will be an integral part of our innovative research projects focused on harnessing the unique capabilities of Oscillatory Neural Networks (ONNs) to address combinatorial optimization problems while entwining theoretical aspects from statistical physics and neuroscience. ONNs, inspired by the dynamics of coupled oscillators, exhibit inherent properties that enable efficient problem-solving through energy minimization. In this project, we aim to further explore and exploit the potential of ONNs in embedding graph-based problems, particularly those known to be challenging for classical computing architectures.
This project offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of research, pushing the boundaries of neural network design and application, and contributing to the development of next-generation computing solutions for complex optimization challenges. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative and dynamic research environment, working alongside experts in the fields of artificial intelligence, statistical physics, and integrated circuit design.

Candidate

The selected post-doctoral researcher will play a crucial role in our groundbreaking research project by delving into novel Oscillatory Neural Network (ONN) architectures specifically designed for complex combinatorial optimization tasks. This involves exploring innovative analog and mixed-signal approaches in circuit design to enhance the overall performance of ONNs. The candidate will actively engage in schematic and layout design processes, leading the way to the tape-out phase for subsequent IC chip production. Subsequently, the researcher will conduct thorough IC chip characterization and testing, systematically evaluating the efficacy of ONNs in tackling a wide array of optimization problems. Additionally, the post-doc will assume a leadership role in project management, overseeing and guiding efforts related to ONN IC design, while providing valuable support and mentorship to junior team members. This multifaceted role presents a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to the cutting-edge intersection of physics-inspired computing and combinatorial optimization problem-solving.
