Job description

Project REPRESENTATION OF VALUE, funded by NWO Starter Grants, has openings for a postdoctoral fellow. The project is embedded in the Social, Economic and Organisational Psychology unit at Leiden University, and the Leiden Economic Decision-Making Laboratory. The project is directed by Dr. Marc-Lluis Vives.

Job Description
Our lab uses behavioral, neuroimaging and psychophysiological techniques to explore the cognitive and neural basis of decision-making. The post-doc will have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing research that spans multiple areas within the field of behavioral economics, psychology, and neuroscience. The ideal candidate will have experience in cognitive and affective neuroscience, strong quantitative and statistical training, and an interest in understanding representational learning for decision-making. The strongest applications will not only have a deep interest in how mental and neural representations drive decision-making, but will also be creative and independent, taking innovative approaches to the study of cognitive processes and the neural basis of decision-making.

Tasks
  • Design and implement independent and collaborative research on the neurobiological and psychological mechanisms underlying value decision-making.
  • Analyze data using state-of-the art statistical techniques.
  • Present and disseminate research findings at (inter)national conferences and in peer-reviewed journal publications.
  • Co-supervise MSc students’ thesis research.
  • Integrate research findings in meta-analyses and reviews.

Requirements

Job Requirements
  • PhD in Cognitive/Behavioural Neuroscience (Neuroeconomics, Cognitive Neuroscience).
  • Experience with computational modeling, neuroscience methods (fMRI) and behavioral experiments on decision-making.
  • Strong statistical and programming skills (e.g., R, Python, Matlab).
  • Strong skills in presenting research findings both orally and in writing.

Terms and conditions
  • The employment is for 2 years.
  • The gross monthly salary is set on €4.332 in the first year (pay scale 11 in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
  • Starting date: between March 1 and 30 May 2024.
