Career Track Assistant Professor HRM/OB with focus on leadership and governance (0.8-1.0 FTE)
Within the Departme

Job description

Within the Department of Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior (HRM/OB; Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen, The Netherlands), a full-time position (0.8-1.0 FTE) is vacant for a career track Assistant Professor in HRM/OB, with a focus on the theme “Leadership and governance”. The assistant professor should have an interest in multidisciplinary research within this theme.

The University of Groningen
The University of Groningen is an internationally oriented university with a rich heritage and an academic tradition dating back to 1614. The University is an academic community with a strong sense of belonging, and a culture of innovative education and research, counting among its alumni the first female student in the Netherlands, the first Dutch astronaut, and various Nobel Prize winners.

Geographically, the university is rooted in the northern part of the Netherlands. The University connects education and research with sustainable and economic processes within society, reflected in focus areas such as Energy, Healthy Ageing and Sustainable Society.

Faculty of Economics and Business
The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of the University of Groningen (UG) empowers and connects students, academics and external stakeholders to have a joint positive impact on regional, national and global economic and business challenges in science and society. It is our mission to offer excellent education and to execute excellent and impactful research.

Leadership and Governance Theme
The position is part of an ambitious government investment initiative in the Social Sciences and Humanities (www.sectorplan-ssh.nl), translated within FEB into five societally relevant and strategic themes in research, education, and for creating impact. One of these themes is “Leadership and Governance,” which focuses, broadly, on leadership processes and governance issues in organizations, see https://www.rug.nl/research/gradschool-economics-and-business/phd-programme/prospective-phd/themes/leadership-and-governance?lang=e. The assistant professor is expected to contribute to teaching and research within this theme from an Organizational Behavior perspective. However, given the interdisciplinary nature of the themes, the candidate should be able to integrate this expertise with insights from other disciplines.

Department of HRM/OB
We are a highly regarded and productive academic group. In our research and teaching activities, the primary focus areas are leadership, diversity, teams, innovation, board dynamics, health, and (un)ethical behavior. We regularly publish research on these topics in top-tier (management) journals. We use a large variety of research methods (using field, experimental, and archival data) and deal with applied, as well as fundamental research questions. Moreover, the department contributes to several degree programs at the Bachelor and Master levels and to the Research Master of the graduate school (FEB research institute). We are responsible for a one-year English spoken MSc-HRM program.

The Faculty of Economics and Business possesses very good research and teaching facilities. Faculty members within the department have an excellent network in industry, providing access to (industry funded) organizational field research. To facilitate access to industry, we have a leading role in the center of expertise HRM/OB (https://www.rug.nl/hrm-ob/) and the interdisciplinary center of expertise “In the lead” (https://www.rug.nl/inthelead/). The department has an internationally oriented work environment with collaboration and exchange with leading universities and scholars around the world.
