Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic new colleague to teach in the English-taught Bachelor’s programme Global Sustainability Science and the Master’s programmes Sustainable Development and/or Water Science and Management.

Your job
You will work as junior lecturer in the Environmental Sciences group of the Departement of Sustainable Development at Utrecht University. Together with your colleagues, you will contribute to the teaching and organisation of Bachelor’s courses mainly, including:
  • natural science courses (for example, Mathematics and System Analysis, Statistics, and courses of the Water, Climate and Ecosystems track such as Chemistry and the Environment, Ecological Field Research, and/or Global Climate Change);
  • interdisciplinary sustainability courses (for example Duurzame Ontwikkeling, Environmental Impact Assessment, Regional Integration Project, Consultancy Project);
  • individual student supervision (Bachelor’s thesis and “tutoraat”). To develop yourself as a teacher, you can follow didactic training.

Moreover, we allocate 30% of your time to contribute to our research programme. This can be done by writing an article based on your thesis, participate in research of senior staff members, by involvement in educational innovation projects, or to reach out to societal stakeholders.

Requirements

As a successful candidate you will:
  • hold a Master’s degree (MSc) or a PhD in a relevant field, such as Environmental Sciences, Sustainable Development, Water Science and Management, Environmental Biology, Climate Studies, or expect a degree soon;
  • preferably have experience with teaching;
  • enjoy working with students;
  • have interest in the research that matches our programmed research;
  • have excellent communication skills and be a team player.

Conditions of employment

We offer:
  • a position (0.9 - 1.0 FTE) for one year, with an extension to a total of four years upon successful assessment;
  • a full-time gross salary between €3,226 in the first year and €5,090 in the fourth year of employment in scale P of the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities;
  • 8% holiday bonus and 8.3% end-of-year bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and flexible employment conditions based on the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities.
