Job description

We are looking for an Assistant Professor in Data Protection and Privacy Law within the esteemed European Centre on Privacy and Cybersecurity (ECPC). Situated under the Law Faculty, ECPC offers executive education programs closely integrated with applied research on legal issues related to personal data protection and cybersecurity.

ECPC – European Centre on Privacy and Cybersecurity
The European Centre on Privacy and Cybersecurity (ECPC), established under the Law Faculty of Maastricht University, offers executive education programmes closely intertwined with the centre’s research on legal issues related to personal data protection and cybersecurity. A growing number of certified professionals are required to deal with new regulations and on-going developments in the privacy and cybersecurity market. In order to meet this global demand, ECPC offers a complete track of regular practice-oriented DPO training and certification courses, a full diploma track on privacy management, conferences and seminars on emerging issues and challenges. The Advanced Master in Privacy, Cybersecurity and Data Management prepares the managers of today for the challenges of tomorrow.

As an assistant professor, you will teach in the Advanced Master in Privacy, Cybersecurity and Data Management, coordinate courses and supervise master dissertations.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and teach courses in the Advanced Master program.
  • Supervise master theses and assist in supervising PhD students.
  • Contribute significantly to the performance and development of the Advanced Master program and other ECPC executive education programs.
  • Conduct research in the field of privacy and related areas.
  • Acquire, coordinate, and contribute to applied research projects in the domain of privacy and related areas.
  • Teach in executive training for professionals and develop new training initiatives.

Requirements
The ideal candidate:
  • Holds a PhD degree in data protection, privacy law, or data security. If you are in the process of acquiring a PhD, you may be considered for a temporary teacher position.
  • Demonstrates profound knowledge of data privacy with an interest in the interplay between data protection/privacy and technologies.
  • Possesses experience in teaching professionals and conducting applied research, preferably in a Problem-Based Learning environment.
  • Expertise in global and European data protection laws and practices, including an in-depth understanding of the GDPR.
  • Excellent writing, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong client service orientation, good communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across various disciplines.
  • Eagerness to develop new business initiatives.
  • Excellent command of the English language (spoken and written).

What we offer
As Assistant Professor at Faculty of Law, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:
  • Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 11 according to UFO profile Universitair docent, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €4332,00 and €5929,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • An employment contract for a period of 18 months with a scope of 1,0 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract.
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
