Job description

The Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences of the University of Groningen invites applicants for an assistant professorship position in Organizational Psychology. This position will be located in the Department of Psychology.

The position of Assistant Professor combines teaching and research in the field of organizational psychology. In teaching, the candidate is expected to teach or coordinate courses in the Bachelor and Master programmes, which can be in English or Dutch. Furthermore, the candidate will supervise Bachelor, (Research) Master and PhD students. Participation in managerial committees related to the organisation of the programmes is expected.

The candidate conducts research in the field of organizational psychology, with a focus on, for instance, power and leadership, creativity and innovation, teams, organizational culture, conflict and negotiation, decision-making, and organizational change. Central to our research and teaching is the link between theory and practice: We produce and disseminate knowledge that is grounded in good research and theory, while at the same time offering clear perspectives for interventions to actually improve organizational life.

The organizational psychology group shares responsibility for teaching in the (English and Dutch) Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs. The teaching philosophy is to provide the knowledge and skills required to analyze, understand, and change a wide variety of phenomena that occur in organizations. The successful candidate teaches and coordinates courses in organizational psychology, supervises Bachelor and Master students, and plays an active role in responding to developments in the teaching of organizational psychology. Requirements

- A completed PhD in Social and Behavioral Sciences in particular in industrial and organizational psychology, or other relevant disciplines such as management or organizational behavior
- Good publication record in international journals
- Experience and interest in teaching students (lecturing, internship/thesis supervision)
- Interest in innovative teaching methods
- Has relevant teaching qualifications (such as the University Teaching Qualification) or willingness to get this in the short term
- Successful in raising grants and funding
- The ability to communicate and teach in English and Dutch (level B2 /C1) or willingness to learn Dutch if not yet proficient
- Excellent social and communicative skills and ability to work in groups
- Important competences are conceptual capacity, environment orientation, presenting and result orientation

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 12 maanden.

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

- depending on qualifications and work experience, a salary of € 4,332 (salary scale 11) to a maximum of € 6,737 (salary scale 12) gross per month for a full-time position
- a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income and an 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance, as well as participation in a pension scheme for employees. For employees moving to The Netherlands, a fiscal facility about extraterritorial costs, the 30% facility, may be applicable if the rules of Dutch tax law permit this. Finally, a full-time position will entitle you to 328 hours of leave per year.
- the position is classified in accordance with the University Job Classification (UFO) system; the UFO profile is Assistant Professor
- a temporary contract for a period of one year. After a positive result of the performance assessment and development interview at the end of this year the contract will be converted into a permanent one.
