Job description

The department of Human-Centered Design of the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering is TU Delft is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Lab Manager with a technical background for the Human Factors (HF) Labs. These Labs offer state of the art infrastructure for human factors / ergonomics research and education. The labs encompass various rooms dedicated to physical factors (3D Body Scanning lab), perceptual factors (Vision Lab, Sound Lab, and Light Lab), and user research (Comfort lab, Hospitality lab, and Control lab). They support a wide range of research projects and course-related project work.

As the Lab Manager, you will be responsible for organizing and managing access to the HF infrastructure and materials, providing support as an operator, providing guidance to students and researchers on instrument usage, and contributing to the setup of test configurations. Additionally, you will play a vital role in supporting education, conducting workshops, procuring instruments and lab supplies, performing maintenance tasks, and providing services to departments and external entities.

Requirements

Strong attention to detail, flexibility, and practical problem-solving skills.

  • Technical experience in informatics, electronics, and related areas, enabling you to tackle complex challenges.
  • Familiarity with topics such as measuring, sound and light physics, 3D scanning & printing, computer-aided design (CAD), and materials.
  • Strong affinity with scientific research and education as demonstrated by earlier experience.
  • Proficiency in both Dutch and English languages.
  • A service-oriented mindset, focused on providing optimal support to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Pedagogical background is a plus, as you will be instructing and guiding students.
  • Ability to work independently, navigate within the organization, and demonstrate a long-term commitment.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 12 maanden.

  • Duration of contract is 12 months with prospect for extension / with prospect of permanent.
  • A job of 32-40 hours per week.
  • A salary based on scale 9-10, depending qualifications and experience of the CAO for Dutch Universities with a minimum of € 3226 and a maximum of € 5090 gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
