Want to be involved in the development of education programmes in Marine Sciences? We are looking for a motivated colleague to fill this temporary position!

Job description

The faculties of Geosciences and Sciences, and the Royal Netherlands Institute of Sea Research (NIOZ) cooperate in research and education within an extensive Marine Sciences programme. We are going to develop an interdisciplinary study track Marine Sciences on the interface between the Bachelor's programmes Biology and Earth Sciences, and update the Master’s degree programme Marine Sciences. Do you want to be involved in this, in the temporary role of Education Coordinator?

Your job
You key task is to lay down the basis of the interdisciplinary Bachelor’s track in Marine Sciences and to help renewing the Master’s programme in Marine Sciences. Except for that, you will:
  • create a detailed structured overview of the content of the current Marine Sciences related courses within the Bachelor’s programmes of Biology and Earth Sciences, and the Master’s programme in Earth Sciences;
  • identify gaps and overlaps of the current courses, given the overall learning outcomes as defined for the programmes;
  • use the above to create a concept proposal for potential new courses in Marine Sciences as well as a light recalibration of the current courses, such that clear learning lines can be established;
  • define skills learning lines for the new Bachelor's track, fully consistent with the way skills are addressed in the Biology and Earth Sciences majors as a whole;
  • identify Earth Sciences concepts that are important for Biology students to successfully follow the joint Bachelor's track, but are not dealt with in the first year of Biology, and do the same with Biology concepts for Earth Sciences students;
  • propose the content, structure and student activities for online repair modules for Earth sciences and Biology Bachelor’s students on basis of the above;
  • work together with lecturers (UU and NIOZ) to carry out the renewal of the Master’s programme in Marine Sciences.
