Do you have an affinity for organising education and enjoy thinking strategically about this? Then we would like to connect with you. Tinbergen Institute is the joint research school of the Schools of Economics and Business of EUR, UvA and VU. We provide two joint degree research master’s programs for a selected group of (international) students in the fields of business data science and economics. In addition, we organize seminars, lectures, workshops and conferences for international scholars. The two program directors and the general director are supported by a small team. We are looking to expand this team.

Job description
Your tasks will be diverse including the admission process of new students, organizing accreditations and quality reviews, supporting the examination board, managing educational support services, organizing meetings for teachers and students, organizing Summer schools and lectures, executing the fellowship program, etc. Within the support teams, there is close collaboration and tasks are shared among members.

Tinbergen Institute has locations in Rotterdam and Amsterdam, and you are required to be regularly present at both locations. Our support team comprises approximately six people, in addition to two director of graduate students and a general director. The atmosphere in our team is informal and you will have autonomy and responsibility in performing your tasks. In your role, you will also interact with the educational support services of EUR, students and PhD candidates, and teachers and researchers from EUR, UvA and VU. We often host scholars from prestigious universities abroad for seminars, workshops and conferences.

Your main responsibilities
  • Actively and autonomously participating in the team responsible for carrying out all education and research responsibilities;
  • Keeping contact with teachers, students and support services at the participating universities;
  • Contributing on how processes can be improved and should be implemented;
  • Supporting the two director of graduate studies and the general director.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree or work experience at the level of a master’s degree, coupled with strong analytical and organizational skills;
  • You have very good oral and written communication skills (at least C1 for English, B1 for Dutch);
  • Being proactive and independent; and enjoying working in a small team;
  • Enthusiasm for education and academic environment; enjoying interacting with students and teachers;
  • Experience in educational support and educational support services;
  • Clear communication skills.

Conditions of employment

We offer you an internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with excellent working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU).

The start date of this position is 1 April 2024 and you will be based at in Erasmus School of Economics (ESE). This position is for 0.8 fte - 1 fte. The salary is dependent on your experience and knowledge and ranges from a minimum of € 3.377 to a maximum of € 4.640 gross per month Scale 9 on a fulltime basis (38 hours), in accordance with the CAO-NU. The contract is entered into for the duration of 12 months and can be converted into a permanent contract if performance is good and the organizational circumstances remain unchanged.

Tinbergen Institute (TI) is the graduate school and research institute operated jointly by the Schools of Economics and Econometrics of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR), University of Amsterdam (UvA) and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU).

Founded in 1987, TI is today one of the major economic research institutes in the Netherlands, with more than 150 research fellows, over 200 PhD and research master students and over 770 PhD alumni. Tinbergen Institute is named after Professor Jan Tinbergen, the Dutch Nobel Prize laureate in Economics (1969). TI has offices in both Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

Tinbergen Institute offers a selective research master program in economics, econometrics and finance, connected to PhD opportunities. The best researchers from the three schools jointly operating Tinbergen Institute are appointed as TI research fellows.
