Job description

Digital technologies are becoming indispensable in the modern research landscape, thus there’s an increasing need for support regarding cloud services and computing that align with Open Science objectives and FAIR principles. In this context, we're launching the Research Computing Infrastructure Support Team, combining the experience of Research Support at the University Library with the expertise of the university's ICT Servicecenter. As the Coordinator for Research Computing Infrastructure, your role will be pivotal in further developing our local cloud computing facilities, i.e. the Data Science Research Infrastructure (DSRI), and also guiding researchers in the use of (inter)national computing facilities. You will lead the creation of a strategic roadmap to position Research Computing Infrastructure support within the organization and manage stakeholder needs to ultimately create bridges so that the end users (academics) can navigate digital infrastructures and manage research software efficiently.

Your work focuses on:
  • As a Coordinator you will work closely with academics, supporting them in navigating the local and (inter)national landscape of High Performance Computing (HPC) solutions and Cloud services for their research projects.
  • Collaborate with external Digital Competence Centers and national Research IT organizations to coordinate resources such as SURF Research Cloud to enhance our services portfolio.
  • Having a user-centric vision: You must be able to translate user needs and requirements into tangible products and services, bearing in mind that academics are transitioning into digital technologies. You must also ensure that our support mechanisms align with legal, academic guidelines and best practices.
  • Stakeholder collaboration: You will be responsible for maintaining regular contact with stakeholders, translating input into product/service features and priorities. You have a sharp organizational sensitivity, and communication skills to coordinate work with the team of engineers, scrum master, community manager, key researchers, national service providers and other teams such as the data stewards.
  • Developing a vision for Research Computing Infrastructure support: You will coordinate the creation of a roadmap that integrates our products and services within the broader Maastricht University research ecosystem. This will ensure long-term support for the evolving needs of the research community in the digital landscape.
  • Agile management and evaluation: You will be instrumental in steering the development of the product (e.g. the DSRI) and the services (e.g. One-on-one support on virtualization technologies). Regularly assessing and evaluating the effectiveness of our offerings. In that sense, your activities as a coordinator are identical to the role of product owner as used within the agile philosophy.
  • Leadership: you are a leader that will actively contribute to the development of the services and products. In your role you provide direction to the team's work, and you are an important point of contact for the team and stakeholders within the organization.
