Department

‘Erasmus Center for Sport Integrity & Transition’ (ESPRIT)
Modern sport materializes many societal values, like fairness, health, inclusion, equality and moral resilience. And yet, a growing amount of integrity issues in the field of sport, prevent these positive values to be cherished. Violence, doping, corruption, discrimination, harassment and matchfixing are the most striking integrity challenges modern sport nowadays has to face. Erasmus University is pooling her unique research expertise in sports - ranging from ethics, law, health, economy and social sciences – to help sport organizations and all other related stakeholders in this social practice, to both tackle these challenges and get ready for the emerging future. We offer interdisciplinary research, embedded ethics and a systemic analysis of sport’s actual challenges, finding new solutions to so called ‘wicked problems’. The ‘Erasmus Center for Sport Integrity & Transition’ (ESPRIT) was established June 2022, funded by the Ministry VWS Sport, NOC*NSF, Vereniging Sport & Gemeenten (VSG), and run by Dr. Sandra Meeuwsen within Erasmus School of Philosophy (ESPhil).
