What will you do?
As a Software Engineer in our Human Nutrition & Health division, you will be a part of our research team. Your role will involve working closely with our researchers to understand their software requirements designing and implementing technical solutions. Together with our data scientists and machine learning experts you will help integrate our models and algorithms into a software solution that further benefits our research goals. This may be by app development or other technical solutions that add value to our goals.

Among others, your duties and responsibilities include:
  • collaborate with researchers in the Division of Human Nutrition & Health to identify software requirements and challenges;
  • collaborate with data scientists and machine learning experts to integrate machine learning models into custom software solutions;
  • develop and implement software solutions to support various research tasks, emphasizing usability and functionality;
  • design tools for data analysis, visualization, and other research-related activities;
  • provide technical support to researchers, troubleshoot software issues, and optimize existing applications;
  • stay informed about the latest developments in software engineering and technology relevant to our research domain.

Requirements

You are/have:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence or a related field;
  • proven experience in software development, preferably in a research setting;
  • proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++;
  • strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team;
  • excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and research methodologies.

In our international working environment there is an increasing amount of communication in English. For this position it is about language level C1. If you do not yet have this level, we will of course help you and you can go to our language center Wageningen in'to Language

Conditions of employment

Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment. A few highlights from our Collective Labour Agreement include:
  • sabbatical leave, study leave, and partially paid parental leave;

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between €5247,- and €6737,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 12). Additionally, a contract for 32 hours a week can be discussed. Initially, we offer you a one-year contract, which will then be extended to an open-ended contract if there is mutual enthusiasm. Of course, we would be happy to discuss this with you if you have any questions.
