Job description

As a junior research technician in the group of Dr. Harsha Devalla, you will work on gaining new knowledge into biological mechanisms regulating heart rate and rhythm.

Projects in the group utilize advanced techniques with human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs), differentiating them to relevant cell types such as cardiomyocytes and neurons, and tissue engineering to generate disease relevant model systems.
  • You will use a variety of cell culture (hiPSC maintenance, differentiation to relevant cell types) and molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, immunocytochemistry, cloning, virus production, CRISPR based genome editing of cell lines). Supporting ongoing projects within the group, you will collaborate with PhD students and other team members.
  • Additionally, you will have the opportunity to supervise Bachelor and Master students during their internships.
  • To plan your activities and coordinate work plans, you will closely collaborate with our laboratory manager, an experienced research technician within the group.
  • Moreover, you will contribute to laboratory management tasks such as inventorising materials reagents, ordering/stocking supplies, maintaining databases up to date.

Requirements

Minimum requirements:
  • A recent graduate or up to 2 years of experience as a research technician with a degree in Life Sciences/Biology and Medical Laboratory Research (preferably HBO bachelor or master).
  • Motivation to work on academic science projects and contribute to new discoveries.
  • Ability to execute experiments with precision, analyze data, and maintain accurate laboratory records.
  • Strong foundational skills in mammalian cell culture techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with others in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice to have:
  • Experience with hiPSC maintenance and differentiation.
  • Experience with CRISPR-based genome editing.

  • Classification in salary scale 7M: € 2,861 to € 4,052 gross for full-time employment (depending on education and experience).
