Job description

The Bijvoet Centre for Biomolecular Research at Utrecht University invites applications for an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor position in the areas of molecular biology, biochemistry, and biophysics (broadly defined).

Your job
As an Assistant/Associate Professor at the Bijvoet Centre for Biomolecular Research, you can contribute to cutting-edge research and mentor future scientists.The Bijvoet Centre focuses on investigating the structure and function of biomolecules at the molecular scale. In this position, you will use modern experimental approaches to study protein and/or ribonucleoprotein function, including (but not limited to) single-molecule, super-resolution imaging or spectroscopic approaches.

You will join the vibrant research environment of the Bijvoet Centre, where you will develop an internationally recognised research programme and successfully apply for external funding. Through teaching activities, which include the supervision of Bachelor's, Master's and PhD candidates, you will contribute to the education of the next generation of STEM workers.

Requirements

For this position, we require you to have a PhD degree and postdoctoral experience with a track record of research accomplishments. Ideally, you also recognise yourself in having:
  • international experience;
  • the vision and perseverance to build an independent research line, funded through national, European and other international grant opportunities;
  • the ambition to actively participate in teaching at the BSc and MSc levels;
  • a collaborative mindset in research and teaching.

Conditions of employment

We offer:
  • a position for 18 months. Following a positive evaluation after those 18 months, this will be converted into a permanent contract;
  • a work week of 32 to 40 hours with a gross monthly salary between €4,332 and €6,737 (salary scale 11-12 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU)) for assistant professor, and between €6,002 to €8,025 (scale 13-14 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU)) for associate professor;
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU;
  • access to state-of-the-art research infrastructure;
  • a fully funded position for a PhD candidate for four years.
