Job description

In your position as an information specialist for the faculty Behavioral Management and Social Sciences ( BMS) of the University of Twente, you will be the first contact person in regard to the education of information literacy, and research within the faculty.

Interdisciplinary education within the faculty is given at the cutting edge of technology and social sciences. And this is taught in five Bachelor’s and 11 Master’s programmes within four departments:
  1. Technology, Policy and Society
  2. Technology, Human and Institutional Behaviour
  3. Learning, Data Analytics and Technology
  4. High-tech Business and Entrepreneurship

Additionally, research at the faculty is conducted within five themes: Emerging Technologies & Societal Transformations;

Resilience; Smart Industry, Learning and Health. The aim of the research and education in the faculty is at continuously contributing to a responsible and sustainable relationship between technology and society as a whole.

As an information specialist for the faculty BMS, you will support the faculty's pioneering research and education. You will support researchers in regard to information literacy, such as finding and using reliable scientific information and publishing their research, as well as in developing information literacy education with them.

In your position as an information specialist, you will be part of the Embedded Information Services (EIS) department within the services of Library, ICT Services, and Archive (LISA) and you will be positioned within the faculty of BMS. This is a multifaceted position in which your activities will largely be developed in collaboration with the faculty. Your core tasks in this position are as follows:
  • You will provide information and conduct demonstrations regarding products and services of the University Library and you will translate theneeds of the faculty into recommendations for new products and services.
  • You will give personal assistance to researchers and students in regard to the usage and publishing of scientific information.
  • You will develop and teach information literacy to bachelor and master degree students of the faculty.
  • You will translate subject-related questions in regard to scientific information into a relevant digital collection of academic sources with help of modern ICT tools.
  • You will support researchers and groups within the faculty with questions regarding copyright, Open Science/Open access, visibility, and the impact of research.
  • You contribute to policy development and you will participate in projects of LISA.

Requirements

  • You have obtained at least a master degree, preferably in one of the BMS disciplines and a few years of relevant work experience. Having obtained your PhD and/or work/study experience in relation to the faculty is an advantage.
  • You have affinity with and knowledge of the research process in an academic environment.
  • Experience in developing and providing education is a plus.
  • Considering that most of the communication will be in the English language, Good command of the English language is required (at least level C1), fluency in Dutch is preferred.
  • You can work both independently as within a team. You feel right at home in a complex organization with a broad spectrum of clients and relations.

Conditions of employment

  • We offer a one-year position, with the prospect of a permanent position after a positive evaluation.
  • The salary is set at a maximum of €5929 gross per month for full-time employment (scale 10 or 11) depending on education and experience. (in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).

Department

As an information specialist, you will be employed within the Embedded Information Services (EIS) department of the Library, ICT Services, and Archive (LISA) department. This department includes the faculty information specialists, data stewards, UT Open Access team, data librarian, and manager of the Digital Competence Centre (DCC). The colleagues within EIS are part of the faculty research support teams and often operate within the faculties..
