Job description

We are seeking a talented UX Researcher  to join our team and play a pivotal role in enhancing the user experience of our digital platforms and services. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders, researchers, and library staff to understand user needs, identify pain points, and create intuitive, accessible, and engaging user interfaces.

In particular, the UX Researcher will work on contributing to projects as part of TU Delft's Digital Strategy. This includes:

  • Charting the ‘researcher journey’ across the university, understanding how staff at the university interact with support services while undertaking research, and identifying challenges on that journey.
  • Based on this ‘researcher journey’ improve the findability of research services by researchers, developing on current tools such as the Software Finder.
  • Improving the user experience of specific library services by designing user interfaces, and developing and testing prototype. In particular in connection with the next version of university’s institutional repository, due to be launched in July 2024.

The UX Researcher will formally report to the Head of Research Services, and will be part of the team of Research Infrastructure. The UX Researcher will also work with the Service Design team at the Library.

Day to day work for the UX Researcher will be interviewing TU Delft researchers from all faculties at TU Delft, whatever their level of career.  S/he will also work with research services across the university campus, understanding how they currently support the different tasks that researchers need to undertake. The UX Researcher will then develop insights and ideas to discuss and embed with teams and product owners of tools such as the Software Finder, the institutional repository and other library services.

Requirements

  • Ability to conduct user research, including interviews, surveys, and usability testing, to gather insights and inform design decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define user personas, user journeys, and wireframes that align with the projects’ goals and user needs.
  • Ability to create high-fidelity prototypes and design mock-ups and work with teams to embed these ideas as workable solutions.
  • Iterate on designs based on feedback from stakeholders and usability testing results.
  • Advocate for user-centred design principles and best practices within the organization
  • Fluent understanding and usage of English. (For non-Dutch speakers), willingness to learn Dutch

Nice to have:

  • Understanding of university and library services, particularly how researchers interact with online services 

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

  • Duration of contract is 1 year.
  • A job of 32-40 hours per week.
  • A salary based on scale 10 of the CAO for Dutch Universities with a minimum of €3.226 and a maximum of €5.090 gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
