We are seeking a highly ambitious researcher to set up their own research-line in health AI, holding a PhD in computer science, medical image analysis, biomedical engineering, applied mathematics, computational physics, or related fields. Experience in medical- or spatial molecular image analysis is preferred.
Specifically, we are looking for someone with:
- Affinity for biomedical data research, interested in developing models that facilitate the fusion of multiple modalities, including histopathology, various genomics, and spatial molecular imaging;
- Therefore, candidates should possess knowledge of state-of-the-art computational methods related to spatial data analysis, such as multimodal deep learning, self-supervised computer vision, multiple instance learning, panoptic segmentation, and geometric deep learning;
- Strong programming and AI software engineering skills are essential, preferably in medical image recognition and genomics, as well as extensive experience with high-performance computing (HPC) and optimization on multi-node CPU/GPU/TPU clusters required;
- Proficiency in state-of-the-art deep learning libraries in Python (e.g., PyTorch) is mandatory. Experience with MLOps and professional data organization is advantageous, as is experience with valorization.
Additionally, candidates should either hold University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) registration (Basis Kwalificatie Onderwijs in Dutch) or be willing to obtain it. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with computational biologists and pathologists are essential attributes for this role.
Tenure-Track Criteria This tenure-track faculty position entails an initial maximum 4-year contract, with the potential for a permanent full faculty position contingent upon tenure-track achievements evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Publications in medium- to high-impact journals;
- Establishing and fostering intra- and extramural collaborations;
- Acquisition capacities for external funding to support research endeavors, from organizations such as KWF, ERC, and/or NWO.
