What is the GGP?

The Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) is a cross-national research infrastructure for high-quality, open-access data about population and family dynamics. The main component is the Generation & Gender Survey (GGS) – a unique longitudinal data source on families and people’s life courses across different countries and territories. Currently, new data is being collected in several European, Asian, and South-American countries and territories.

What are we looking for?
The Generations and Gender Programme currently has a vacancy for a Student Assistant.

We are looking for a new team member who can assist with COORDINATE project tasks and the daily operations of the GGP Central Coordination Team. The COORDINATE project is a partner project of the GGP which aims to to enhance data accessibility and linkage practices across Europe by fostering collaboration among its partners. This will include:
  • collecting, systemising, and synthesising information on remote data access and data linking practices from GGP and COORDINATE project partners in Europe
  • making an inventory of partners able to provide and link different types of data (e.g. survey data and register data)
  • writing a final report based on the collected information to the European Commission
  • assisting project lead with related tasks
  • supporting the work of the GGP Central Coordination Team as needed

Requirements

What are we expecting?

We are seeking a dynamic and versatile candidate, who can support the work of the GGP Central Coordination Team and can adapt quickly to changing priorities. We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a Research Master in social sciences, or another relevant discipline (and enrolled for the whole duration of the student assistantship)
  • Keen eye for detail combined with reliable organisational skills
  • Highly adaptable and able to manage changing priorities with ease
  • Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges
  • Strong communication skills in the English language (written and oral)
  • Project management experience would be an asset
  • Experience in working with large-scale (longitudinal) survey data (e.g. GGS, SHARE) would be an asset

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 9 months, starting 2 days a week, extension to fulltime in the summer is possible.

The candidate is expected to start as soon as possible. The appointment will be for a period of 9 months. The appointment will start with two days a week. During the summer it can be extended to fulltime.

Terms of employment
Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is between € 2.618 and the maximum salary is € 2.846 gross per month for a full-time (38 hours a week) appointment (scale SA of CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP.

Non Dutch-resident applicants are required to relocate to The Netherlands. If and when necessary, NIDI will apply for the residence permit. Non Dutch employees may qualify for a Tax break (30% Ruling).

The Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) is a leading European demographic research institute. NIDI is part of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and affiliated with the University of Groningen. It is located in the centre of The Hague providing a unique and stimulating research environment in the broad field of population studies. Currently, the staff of the institute consists of about 65 employees of different levels of seniority and organised in a rather horizontal structure within four thematic research groups.
