Job description

Following Dutch law, only applicants holding the nationality of a member state of the EU/EEA or Switzerland could be employed in this non-academic position. Your tasks
You are the pivotal point of contact for staff, PhD students, and external parties of the department. You perform your tasks under the responsibility departmental management team. You provide support in the department’s field by drawing up (parts of) draft reports for management information and taking care of partial administration. Based on broad instructions and in conjunction with staff services, you draw up and manage (financial) business administration, prepare budgets, contribute to the preparation of project/department reports and monitor their progress. You arrange meetings/events, support the preparation of programmes, take minutes and monitor deadlines.

Besides this, you will also handle incoming and outgoing correspondence (such as letters memos, reports and emails), website maintenance, and social media outreach. You will support the hiring and introduction of new department members and international visitors. You will book travel for the department and order laptops and other computing infrastructure. You will maintain email distribution lists and room allocation and support the organisation of social events. You will establish priorities for the department, schedule appointments with people inside and outside the department, and support the implementation of communication activities.

Requirements

  • MBO+ or comparable level, possibly supplemented with secretarial training
  • Proactive, friendly and collegial way of acting
  • Well-organised, with strong planning and multi-tasking skills
  • Clear and concise communication in English. Dutch language skills or willingness to learn is an asset
  • Feel at ease in an international environment
  • Knowledge of the use of the common ICT (Office) package at a high level.
  • Keen to further professionalise the working environment of the secretariat and the department
  • Accurate and a talent for improvisation

Conditions of employment

  • An inspiring and exciting international environment
  • Part-time position (24 hours per week) for one year. A decision on extension will be made within the first nine months of the employment
  • Gross monthly salary between € 2,693.- and € 3,636.- (full-time), depending on experience and qualifications (job profile Management-/Office Assistant, level 2)
  • A holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.3%

Department

The Department of Earth Observation Science (EOS) has around 30 staff members and 30 PhD students from all over the world and is engaged in education, research and capacity building on earth observation, image analysis and geo-health. The department develops and applies methods for the extraction of geographical information from data gained by satellite, airborne, and terrestrial sensors. It holds expertise in sensor technology, deep learning, spatial statistics, image understanding, monitoring and data integration, and modelling the spread and emergence of diseases at various scales.
