Job description

Are you interested in contributing to research aimed at improving mental health across the lifespan? Do you like to work interdisciplinary connecting different themes? We are seeking an assistant professor, who will take an active role in research and related education related to Urban Mental Health, the largest interdisciplinary Research Priority Area from the University of Amsterdam. You will be positioned at the department of Psychology, specifically within the domain of Developmental Psychology, from which you will contribute to the existing master Health Promotion and Behaviour Change. In addition, you will help to develop the new interdisciplinary master Complexity and Policy. An assistant professor at (Developmental) Psychology is a motivated scholar who is actively involved in developing and giving courses (55%), as well as in designing and executing empirical research (45%).

You will
  • Play an active role in the UvA-FMG team of Urban Mental Health;
  • Do research related to urban mental health;
  • Teach at (developmental) psychology;
  • Help develop the new Complexity and Policy master.

Requirements

Your experience and profile
  • Ph.D. related to mental health, preferably including complex systems/network analyses;
  • Experience with research on mental health interventions (preventive and/or curative);
  • Excellent data-analytical skills, including network analyses;
  • Knowledge of mental health from a developmental perspective (e.g., resilience);
  • Excellent research skills, as demonstrated by publications in international journals;
  • Writing applications for research grants;
  • Some experience in teaching at the university level; ideally obtained a BKO (or international equivalent) or the willingness to complete the BKO training during your appointment;
  • Strong communication, social and organizational skills;
  • If not already fluent in Dutch, the willingness to learn Dutch as it is expected that the candidate will be able to teach in both English and Dutch within 5 years of the start of the contract;
  • In addition, you like to contribute to a collegial work environment, to share knowledge, embraces open science, curious, critical and eager to learn.

Conditions of employment

This is a temporary employment contract for 32 - 38 hours per week, for the duration of 18 months (12 months if you are already employed by the UvA). After positive evaluation and satisfactory performance, you will be offered a tenured position.

Depending on education and relevant work experience, the salary amounts to a minimum of €4332 and a maximum of €5929 gross per month (scale 11) based on full-time working hours (38 hours per week), excluding 8% vacation allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The Cao Dutch Universities is applicable.
