The Cultural History section is looking for enthusiastic temporary lecturers to supplement teaching provision in the History BA, both in English and Dutch.

Functieomschrijving

As a lecturer in the Cultural History section of the department of History and Art History, you will be responsible for teaching a wide range of courses at all levels of the BA Geschiedenis and the BA History.

Wat ga je doen?
You will teach mainly in the History BA programme, support in the coordination of courses in Cultural History, the Theory and Methodology of History, and General History – both in English and Dutch. Some teaching within the MA in Cultural History and Heritage may be offered. You will lead seminars and evaluate student research beyond their own area of expertise. Candidates with affinity for theory of history, environmental history, and/or heritage studies are particularly welcomed to apply.

Functie-eisen

The successful candidate has:
  • teaching experience with undergraduate students and a commitment to the supervision of theses and internships;
  • a clear teaching philosophy, briefly outlined in a statement in which you reflect on your teaching beliefs and practices, and what skills and knowledge you bring to an education team - include this statement in your motivation letter;
  • completed an MA or RMA in History;
  • full proficiency in Dutch and English (minimum C1 level for both);
  • the ambition and ability to contribute fully to the academic life of the group and the department.

Utrecht University has a teaching qualification system for university lecturers, and candidates are required to obtain the University Teaching Qualification (BKO) within two years if they are not already in possession of one.

Candidates from abroad must fulfil the conditions set by the IND to work in the Netherlands.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

We offer:
  • a position for a maximum of four years, starting 15 August 2024;
  • a working week of 28 hours and a gross monthly salary between €3,226 and €5,929 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale 10/11 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU));
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.

If you already hold a BKO, you will be placed in scale 11 (a gross monthly salary between €4,332 and €5,929). If you do not yet hold a BKO, you will be placed in scale 10 (a gross monthly salary between €3,226 and €5,090).
