An ambitious university requires dedicated support to its scientists, students, and colleagues. The department Library and Information Services (LIS) plays a key role within the fields of (Research) Data Management, IT, and Open Science. The team Privacy Operations is centrally positioned within LIS and consists of five Privacy Officers and an Administrative Assistant.

The TU/e is looking for an enthusiastic Privacy Officer, with legal knowledge and affinity with research and artificial intelligence (AI), in light of the upcoming EU AI Act.

Job description

As a Privacy Officer, you will be part of the central Privacy Operations team. The main focus of your work will be improving privacy maturity at the departments (faculties). You will support the first line of privacy support and the departments in implementing measures to ensure GDPR compliance. In your work you will give advice to all kinds of clients (from managing directors to researchers, teachers and support staff). For that reason, we are looking for a Privacy Officer with good networking and communication skills.

In your work you will contribute to improving the privacy maturity levels of the Departments together with your colleagues in the team Privacy Operations. Examples of your work will include:
  • Providing solution-oriented legal support or advice on subjects ranging from research to education and business management.
  • Developing, updating and implementing privacy frameworks, policies and procedures.
  • Assessing the risks of new applications or processing activities.
  • Monitoring (new) processing activities, supporting the development and maintenance of the Record of Processing Activities (ROPA).
  • Handling data breaches and data subject requests.
  • Advising and providing legal support in external partnerships by drafting privacy agreements (e.g., data sharing, joint controller and processing agreements) or consent forms.
  • Performing and reviewing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
  • Supporting in complex or sensitive cases.
  • Participating in various consultive structures and collaborative ventures within or outside the organization.
  • Contributing to privacy awareness within the organization.
  • Supporting AI Act implementation within the organization from a data privacy perspective.

The TU/e will provide you with training and development opportunities on relevant privacy, artificial intelligence and organizational matters. In addition, TU/e also offers a wide range of professional training and development opportunities on various topics.

Requirements

  • You have completed a relevant (legal) degree at university level;
  • You have a minimum of 3 years of work experience in the field of privacy (or other relevant work experience related to this position);
  • You are accessible, analytical and a team player;
  • You know how to deal with resistance and how to motivate people;
  • You have good communication skills, both verbal and written, and you can explain complex legal matters in an understandable manner to different audiences;
  • You have customer focus, a keen attention to detail and you are energized by supporting and solving problems for both individuals and the organization as a whole;
  • Experience in a research-intensive environment and/or in the field of AI-compliancy, is a big plus;
  • You are someone who thrives in an autonomous environment, takes initiative in identifying problems and implementing solutions and takes ownership of tasks and projects;
  • You are proficient in the English language, both orally and in writing, as the official language of communication within the TU/e is English. Proficiency in Dutch, to independently interpret and apply Dutch professional literature and jurisprudence in practice, is a plus.  

Conditions of employment

An exciting position within an international yet personal university. You are right in the middle of  a lively and green campus within walking distance of the central station. We also offer you:
  • A monthly salary of minimum € 3.226,- to maximum € 5.929,- for full-time employment, depending on your knowledge and experience (scale 10-11 collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities).
  • In addition to vacation pay, also a structural end-of-year bonus of 8.3% (one extra month).
  • A total of 41 vacation days if you work 40 hours per week.
