We are looking for a talented professional to take on the combined role of Scrum Master for two of our teams: Educational Media, and Society Based Education (0.8 FTE).
At the Teaching and Learning Centre we employ the Agile working method. As Scrum Master (we call it Flow Master), you are responsible for an effective and transparent agile way of working. You will support the team in planning and executing the ‘how’ and the ‘when’ using Agile artefacts and routines. In addition, you will coach team members in self-organisation and working in a multidisciplinary manner. You will work closely with the team’s Product Owner.

Our Educational Media team (currently 12 colleagues) is responsible for producing thousands of in-studio, on-location, and streamed knowledge clips (videos) and events on behalf of the university each year.

Our Society Based Education team (currently 7 colleagues) connects society and education at WUR by translating real questions into research projects that students of the university work on within their courses.
Your duties and responsibilities include:
  • you will help two Agile teams to become high-performance teams by facilitating the project/work planning and monitoring progress. You will also help the teams to work transparently, with an emphasis on value creation in an educational context;
  • you will coach team members in self-organisation, effective cooperation, behavioural change, and collaboration;
  • you will organise and facilitate Agile methodologies (e.g., Retrospective, Planning, etc.), as well as the Kanban board (Jira), the knowledge matrix, and the backlog used by the team;
  • you will have HR tasks such as doing the Performance and Development talks with the team members, give learning & development support (both team and individual level), and tasks in recruitment and absenteeism;
  • you will provide pro-active support for other relevant tasks, e.g., the organisation of brainstorming sessions, as well as events or workshops within TLC;
  • you will be an active member of the organisation’s support network (e.g., Scrum/Flow Master’s guild, Peer Coaching group, support from internal team coaches) for developing competences, exchange of experiences and sharing knowledge. You will participate in regular departmental meetings for all our Scum Masters and Product Owners.

Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role is flexible, professional, and thoughtful. It goes without saying that organisational and facilitation skills are a must. Other requirements for being able to perform this role well:
  • you have at least a HBO Bachelor’s degree;
  • you have at least five years of work experience in a relevant field (e.g. Scrum master, project management with an emphasis on education-oriented products, media development, Team lead, educational advisor, etc.);
  • you have an excellent command of written and spoken English (C2). Proficiency in Dutch language is a strong pre;
  • excellent communication, organisation, documentation, coaching, learning and group facilitation skills (soft skills).

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between € 4.332,- and € 5.929,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 11). For this position we offer a temporary contract for the period of 1 year and 0.8 fte with the possibility of a permanent contract after one year.

The Teaching and Learning Centre

The Teaching and Learning Centre employs around 75 staff members in 6 teams:
  • Training & Advice - offers pedagogical advice and educational training, workshops and courses, such as the University Teaching Qualification (Basis Kwalificatie Onderwijs).
  • Lifelong Learning Creation (3LC) - supports creation of continuing education beyond the bachelor and master phases, as well as curriculum development.
  • Online Learning Environment - offers functional management of the digital learning environment (Brightspace) and emerging educational technology applications.
  • Educational Media - supports the production of media and associated capture and distribution technologies.
  • Digital Assessments - responsible for all the digital assessments in education and associate technologies.
  • Society Based Education - stimulates and organises real life cases in education offered by societal partners (from business, governmental-, to civil society organisations).
