Job description

     Academic Affairs

  • To oversee the coordination of our programs with our academic partners in Amsterdam. This oversight includes course registration processes, resident permit applications, student academic issues, grade administration, course under- and/or overload requests, course withdrawals, grade appeals, etc., and the ability to cover in the case of absence of the (Senior) Academic Programs Coordinators.
  • To be a liaison with our Amsterdam partners as well as with the relevant teams & colleagues at our HQ in Chicago.
  • To be the main liaison for the ‘Fall Ball program,’ a study abroad add-on component for student athletes.
  • To manage student Academic Accommodation requests
  • To line-manage and support the (Senior) Academic Programs Coordinators.

    Program Development
     
  • To collaborate with the Academic Affairs Team and the Centre Director on the development of new academic programs.
  • To build new partnerships with academic institutions.
  • To collaborate with the Faculty Liaison on the implementation of the current IES programs (Summer program & Winter Quarter program) including course offerings, scheduling and registration. (Inter)-Center Engagement
  • To collaborate with Student Affairs Team and the Operations Coordinator on the orientation program of various orientations for both semester-long programs as well as other IES programs (including our Summer program as well as our Winter Quarter program)
  • To participate in Cluster Academic meetings (with colleagues from Dublin and London) to share and implement best shared practices.

    Student Engagement
     
  • To undertake 1:1 sessions with students from all programs at the beginning and halfway through the program together with the full IES team.
  • To plan and participate in a comprehensive extracurricular program each semester (Amsterdam trips, day trips around the Netherlands and other activities) together with the full IES team.
  • To liaise with DEIA Specialist to advocate for an inclusive academic environment both at IES Abroad and at partner universities

    Support Student Affairs
     
  • To be on-call 24/7 with the emergency phone, on a rotational basis with other members of staff (approximately once every 10 weeks)
  • To be familiar with, and be able to carry out IES emergency plans and protocols.

    General
     
  • To be knowledgeable and current on all general IES Abroad information.
  • To assist with the updates of IES Abroad HQ publications materials such as the predeparture information and the IES Abroad catalogue.
  • To check the Amsterdam pages of the IES Abroad website on a regular basis for updates or any inconsistencies.
  • To participate in training webinars (Academic)
  • To perform other duties as directed by the Centre Director

Requirements

  • Minimum BSc/BA degree
  • Minimum 1 years relevant experience in a team lead position in international education or related field
  •  Superior oral and written communication skills in both Dutch and English
  • Strong organizational skills with an eye for detail
  • Comfortable presenting to large groups
  • Excellent human & interpersonal (communication) skills
  • Understanding of American higher education and/or experience with working with students from the US is a definite plus
  • Experience with a Dutch higher educational institution (work and/or study)
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Flexible and adaptable personality suited to working in a small team with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to work legally in the Netherlands
  • For international candidates, previous experience living and/or working in the Netherlands • Live a maximum of 1 hour away from the IES center (door to door) with your chosen mode of transportation
  • Understand the importance of DEIA

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 jaar.
