What does this job entail?
The PPLE Education Desk Assistant assists the PPLE Education Desk employees and the teaching staff at PPLE College in all education related matters, as well as provides general administrative support for PPLE’s educational team. They do so by manning the Education Desk during opening hours and function as a “first point of contact” for incoming questions from both students and staff, in person and digitally. The key tasks are (thus) communicating with students and teaching staff as well as assisting with administrative side of examination preparation and ensuring all course materials are archived efficiently. You will process requests that come in via e-mail, TopDesk or in person and will occupy the front desk together with the other assistant. The front desk is open every day. You will work three days per week. Other tasks will include: assisting in updating Canvas pages, room booking, keeping an eye on PPLE post, and ordering books for staff.

What do you have to offer?
The successful PPLE Education Desk Assistant is enrolled as a student (for the academic year 2024-2025) and has both excellent administrative and communication skills.

In addition, you have/are:
  • A pro-active, problem-solving and creative attitude;
  • Excellent English language and communication skills (native or near-native speaker);
  • Experience in an administrative/support role;
  • Strong Excel and Canvas skills;
  • Excellent organisational skills and able to work in a precise manner;
  • Able to work both independently and in a team in a dynamic educational environment;
  • Able to resolve issues in a diplomatic and confidential manner.

Preferred experience/skills:
  • Experience with SIS and Topdesk is considered a pré;
  • Dutch language and communication skills.

Due to the nature of the work PPLE students cannot apply for this position.

What can we offer you?
We offer a temporary employment contract until 31 August 2025 with a probationary period of one month, preferably starting in the week of 12 August 2024. If you prove to be a good match for the job and are still studying, then an extension is possible. The employment contract is for maximum 16 hours a week.

Your salary, depending on your relevant experience on commencement of the employment contract, ranges between € 2.618 to € 2.846 gross per month on the basis of a full working week of 38 hours. This sum does not include the 8% holiday allowance and the 8.3% year-end allowance. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU) is applicable.

PPLE College at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) offers an interdisciplinary, research-based, English taught bachelor programme in Politics, Psychology, Law & Economics (PPLE). PPLE College offers students an academic programme focused on the challenges science and society face at the intersections of its four disciplines. PPLE students learn to analyse complex societal and organisational challenges through the integration of theories and methods from Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics.

PPLE College is based on the following four principles:
