Job description

Do you have experience with Open Source software? And would you like to work at the interface of science and technology? The Research IT department at Utrecht University is looking for a Software Developer or DevOps Engineer for the further development of our Research Data Management application. This application enables researchers to securely deposit, share, publish and preserve large amounts of research data during a research project.

Your job
As a software developer your tasks are:
  • contributing to the development of our Research Data Management application;
  • maintain and further develop the application on an infrastructure level;
  • participate in an international team of open source Software Developers and DevOps Engineers;
  • supporting the functional application managers;
  • creating and maintaining documentation;
  • being Open Source minded.

Requirements

For this position, we are looking for a colleague with a talent for solving technical problems, who has excellent communication and collaboration skills, a flexible approach and working method, and proven organisational and time management skills. Additionally, we require you to have:
  • an MSc, PhD or professional Bachelor's degree;
  • proficiency in Python and SQL;
  • experience with Ansible, Apache, PostgreSQL, Pytest and preferably iRODS;
  • experience with software development in an agile (SCRUM) setting;
  • experience with automated software deployments (CI/CD) and testing;
  • proven expertise of Linux, in particular CentOS/RHEL or Debian/Ubuntu and shell scripting and version control (Git);
  • experience within the research domain at a university;
  • good English language skills.

Conditions of employment

We offer:
  • a laptop and a mobile phone from Utrecht University;
  • an employment contract for 12 months with the prospect of a permanent employment contract;
  • a working week of 32 hours and a gross monthly salary between €3,226 and €5,929 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale 10, 11 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU);
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.
