The Psychology Department of the FMG is looking for tutorial teachers in the 2nd and 3rd year of our bachelor program from August onwards. Throughout the academic year, you will work with groups of students to collectively explore course materials. You give feedback on research reports, essays, and other student assignments and assess them with a grade. Various contract sizes and positions (teaching assistant/teacher) are available with contact sizes varying between 11.4 – 33.1 hours.

What are you going to do
For the teacher position (MSc), we are looking for applicants with a background in Clinical Psychology or Clinical Neuropsychology who would like to work in a diverse educational setting. In the first semester, you will work within the 2nd year of the shared bachelor program, in a young, enthusiastic, self-directed team, with the freedom to share and incorporate your own ideas and initiatives. You will teach (a selection of) tutorials for the courses Scientific and Statistical Reasoning (SSR), Fundamentals of Psychology (FP), and Practical Training: Psychological Research (PT:PR). You are also the mentor of the students in your groups: you will have (individual) mentoring meetings, and you provide guidance for students in their learning process where needed. In the second semester, you will be involved in teaching in the elective program ('Specialization') for Clinical Psychology or Clinical Neuropsychology.

For the teaching assistant position (Master students), we are looking for applicants with an affinity for academic writing. Master students from all psychology-related backgrounds can apply for this position. You will join the team in the first semester and teach one tutorial a week for PT:PR. This will include teaching hours, feedbacking subproducts from students, and grading final papers.

Your tasks will include

• Teach one/more tutorial groups per week
• Be the mentor of the students of the group; you will have (individual) mentoring meetings, and you provide guidance for students in their learning process where needed (for teacher position only)
• Give feedback on research reports, essays, and other assignments

What do you have to offer
You enjoy supervising groups of (international) students in the second/third year of their psychology studies. You like teaching academic skills such as data-analysis (statistics), scientific writing, argumentation, and philosophy of science, and you enjoy exploring clinical (neuro) psychology topics and skills with your students. You are interested in teaching and innovating education, you want to develop yourself as a teacher, and reflect on your own skills. You have excellent communication and social skills and you can work well in a team.

Because we are a bilingual bachelor’s programme, we are looking for tutorial teachers who can teach either in English or in Dutch. Given the increase in Dutch students, Dutch speaking tutors are preferred. We strive for a diverse team in which different perspectives are represented.

Your experience and profile

• Have nearly (teacher assistant position) or recently (teacher position) obtained a master’s degree (or PhD) in Psychology or a strongly related field;
• Have background in Clinical Psychology or Clinical Neuropsychology (teacher position);
• Have a Psychology related background and affinity with academic writing (teacher assistant position);
• Are proficient in Dutch, English, or both;
  
  • Note: For Clinical Neuropsychology, we are only looking for Dutch speaking candidates
• Have good scientific writing skills and an excellent command of the respective teaching language;
• Preferably have some teaching experience or experience in guiding groups;
• Are available every Tuesday from 16.00-17.00 in the first semester to attend our team meeting, in which we evaluate last week's tutorial meetings together and look ahead to next week.

What can we offer you

Teacher position

We offer a temporary employment contract of 4 years (with 2 months probation). Depending on how many tutorial groups you want to give, you can work a maximum of 33.1 hours.

• For example: with a 33.1-hour contract, you will teach four tutorials per week (1x PT:PR and 3x SSR/FP).
• It is also possible (and advised for the first year) to obtain a smaller contract and, (e.g.) teach three tutorials per week (1x PT:PR and 2x SSR/FP) with a contract of 26.8 hours.

You will be given time for training and development (DOP). The DOP is meant to increase the future employability of beginning lecturers after their temporary employment. During the 4 years, you will follow several professionalisation courses with your colleagues within the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences (FMG).

The UFO profile docent 4 is applicable. Depending on relevant experience at the start of the employment, the salary amounts to €3.226 to €3.720 gross per month based on full-time employment (38 hours per week), in accordance with salary scale 10. This is excluding an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The Cao Nederlandse Universiteiten applies.

Teacher assistant position

• You will teach 1 one tutorial per week (1 PT:PR group) with a contract of 11.4 hours.

The UFO profile Student Assistant is applicable. If you have not yet graduated, you can be employed as a student assistant for 6 months with a possible extension. You are then not eligible for the DOP. The salary amounts to €2.856 gross per month based on full-time employment (38 hours per week), in accordance with salary scale Student Assistant 4. This is excluding an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The Cao Nederlandse Universiteiten applies.
