Job description

Are you interested in interdisciplinary research projects? Are you skilled at helping students integrate knowledge from a variety of fields? Do you enjoy supervising and coaching students to work on such projects in brain and cognitive sciences? We are looking for teaching staff for a six-month course on interdisciplinary skills (Introduction to Interdisciplinary Research), organised by the research master’s programme Brain and Cognitive Sciences at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies.

What are you going to do?
As a junior teacher, you will be involved in teaching weekly workgroups on Tuesday evenings, supervising a group of 20 students throughout their research project. You will explain interdisciplinary skills and model interdisciplinarity by coaching students through assignments and an exploration of literature. Doing so, you will help promote collaborative skills, such as listening, explaining, deliberating and project management. Besides that, you will have individual meetings with the students to monitor their well-being and to mentor them as young scientists, in close collaboration with the programme study adviser.

During the whole course, you will follow existing lesson plans, but you have the opportunity to refine or adapt them in collaboration with the course coordinator. Finally, your role also includes assessing student work during project progress.

Your profile
  • You have a master’s degree or PhD in a field related to brain and/or cognition;
  • You have demonstrable experience in teaching, preferably in an interdisciplinary setting;
  • You are eager to learn about interdisciplinary skills and toolkits;
  • As student projects evolve, you are able to shift between coaching and directive styles, depending on the student group and the progress of their work;
  • To promote student creativity and input, you are able to provide a friendly atmosphere that fosters exchange.

Our offer
We offer a temporary employment contract for 10 hours per week for a period of 6 months. The preferred starting date is 1 August 2024. You will be employed through the secondment agency JobService.
