Job description

We are looking for a new colleague to complement our team and to advance this timely and important field. Population health is complex, and in general it covers dynamic interactions between cells, organs, individuals and societies. The scientific principles of such complex and dynamic adaptive systems, however, apply equally to individual, public and planetary health. The mutual interactions are vital and need to be investigated further. So far, only few groups address this topic. Are you the enthusiastic expert, with interest in research methodology, systems science, and other aspects of quantitative research, to fill this gap? Then we are looking for you!

What are you going to do?
As assistant professor you will contribute to the research and education of the chair group of Global Nutrition.
You will set up and maintain a research line on the development of systems science and related methods in the field of healthy and sustainable diets.

In particular:
  • you will build and lead your own line of research in conjunction with team members focusing on systems science aspects of healthy and sustainable diets, in interaction with other scientists at the chair group and the division;
  • you will set up collaborations and attract funding for PhD candidates and postdocs to support your research line;
  • you will contribute to the education activities of the chair group: you will lecture in English in MSc and BSc level courses, and you will have the opportunity of innovating courses, such as on Systems Science, Dietary Exposure, and/or Nutritional Epidemiology, in collaboration with other HNH colleagues and external chair groups you will supervise BSc and MSc thesis projects that fit your expertise and research interests;
  • time permitting, you will take part in the organization and day-to-day management of the Global Nutrition; you will contribute academic services to Wageningen University & Research as a whole and to the broader scientific community.

  • you acquire, lead and implement innovative and creative(inter-) national research projects in Global Nutrition;

  • you contribute to the further development of the chair group Global Nutrition.

Requirements

This position fits you when you have the following skills and competences:
  • a PhD degree in quantitative aspects of nutrition or other biomedical sciences, related social or environmental sciences, or in applied mathematics/statistics;
  • clear interest in the research field of healthy and sustainable diets;
  • be able to think and communicate across disciplinary boundaries;
  • be a self-starter and a consummate collaborator, able to work independently;
  • be enthusiastic and dedicated;
  • excellent oral and written command of the English language (C1 level) is necessary for a good job performance.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will be offered a fixed-term, 7 year contract which, upon positive evaluation based on criteria elaborated in the University's Tenure Track policy, can lead to a permanent employment contract as professor. Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between € 4232,- and € 5929,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 11).
