We are seeking an enthusiastic and hands-on
communications manager with at least three years’ experience in working in digital communications with international organisations or in government. You will need to be highly proficient in written and spoken English and have demonstrably strong organisational, intercultural, and interpersonal skills, as well as being capable of multitasking and working under pressure. You will report to the Head of the GCTF Administrative Unit and work closely with all other members of the team. We are seeking a person that can work independently and proactively, and act as an active and flexible team member. When required, you must be willing and able to work irregular hours, including weekend days, and to undertake travel abroad.
What are you going to do? You will be responsible for preparing, planning, and delivering the communications on GCTF-hosted activities (e.g., plenary, expert and coordination meetings, workshops, consultations) abroad, in the Netherlands, or online. The Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) is an informal, apolitical, multilateral counterterrorism platform. It is small, nimble, inclusive, and consensus based. Its overarching mission is to reduce the vulnerability of people worldwide to terrorism by mobilizing expertise and resources to prevent, combat, and prosecute terrorist acts and counter incitement and recruitment to terrorism. The Forum brings together policymakers and practitioners from around the world to share experiences and expertise, and to develop practical, publicly available tools and strategies on how to prevent and counter the evolving terrorist threat.
The organisation Established in 1965, the
T.M.C. Asser Instituut is an independent and internationally renowned research centre in international and European law, affiliated with the University of Amsterdam. The Asser Institute’s mission is to contribute to the development of international and European public and private law. The
GCTF Administrative Unit (GCTF AU), is hosted by the Netherlands. The Asser Institute is the formal employer of GCTF AU staff. The GCTF AU carries out the overarching, day-to-day operations of the
Global Counterterrorism Forum and it provides the necessary analytical, administrative, and logistical support to the GCTF Coordinating Committee and its Working Groups and Initiatives.
Tasks and responsibilities Your main tasks & responsibilities will include:
- Drafting, posting, publishing, and disseminating web articles, social media posts, newsletters, and press releases.
- Managing interaction with social media audiences, and requests from the media and other relevant communications stakeholders.
- Designing visuals for digital communications.
- Maintaining and updating the GCTF website.
- Monitoring and improving the traction of the GCTF’s digital communications.
- Information management – creating, maintaining, and updating relevant files and documents, including guidelines and other procedural documents.
- Building and maintaining relationships with communications colleagues across the GCTF community and at all levels.
- Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
- All employees provide back up for one another.
- Represent the GCTF Administrative Unit when appropriate.
What do you have to offer?Your profile and skills The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:
- A relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- At least three (3) years of recent, demonstrable communications work in an international environment.
- Experience organizing and delivering communications for on-site events and virtual events is a must.
- Experience in working in a multi-cultural and multilateral environment.
- Competent working in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
- Strong planning, organizational, time management, and negotiating skills.
- Critical thinking, active listening, good judgement, a problem solver.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills (English). Proficiency in other languages (particularly French and/or Arabic) is a distinct advantage.
- Drafting, writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Design skills – ability to work with Canva is a must. Ability to work with more advanced design tools (Photoshop, InDesign) is desirable.
- Photography and videography skills are desirable.
- Collaborative and supportive approach to teamwork as well as an ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Intercultural effectiveness.
- Flexible, ability to multitask.
- Ability to keep calm under pressure.
- Capacity to find creative solutions to any challenges that may arise.
- High level of integrity.
- Able to travel internationally.
- Willing to work the required hours to deliver an event in a diversity of locations worldwide.
- You must have extensive practical experience with computer application such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, etc.) as well as of various on-line platforms (Zoom, WebEx, etc).
Our offer We offer an appointment for 22.8 hours per week (0.6 FTE) for an initial period of two years, with a probationary period of two months and with the possibility of extension after two years. The salary is based on knowledge and experience and amounts to a minimum of € 3.226 and a maximum of € 5.090 gross per month for full-time work, excluding a holiday allowance (8%) and an end-of-year bonus (8.3%). The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch universities (
CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten) is applicable. The position falls under the University Job Classification (UFO) profile Communications Advisor (level 3) and scale 10. You will be employed by the University of Amsterdam, Faculty of Law, but seconded to the T.M.C. Asser Instituut in The Hague.
