The Maastricht Science Programme is looking for an enthusiastic lecturer with expertise in all areas of Chemistry to join our dynamic international team to sustain our ongoing growth.

Job Description
We are inviting applications from all areas of Chemistry, with a particular interest in experimental chemists that would be able to make full use of laboratory space and analytical instruments (including but not limited to NMR, LC-MS, GC-MS, TGA, DSC, UV-Vis, and IR) to which you will have unlimited access.

The ideal candidate will be expected to be an effective teacher for undergraduate level especially, passionate about transmitting their knowledge in a research-based learning setting. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the Maastricht Science Programme, you can expect to liaise not only with fellow chemistry colleagues (theoretical chemists, organic chemists, materials chemists, etc) but also with colleagues across other disciplines to foster interdisciplinary education and research. A strong commitment to interdisciplinary education and interest and flexibility towards interdisciplinary research will represent an ideal fit for the department:

Requirements
  • A PhD in chemistry;
  • An excellent track record, which reflects a strong commitment to science and engineering education;
  • An excellent command of the English language and you flourish well in an international setting and rapidly developing environment;
  • Good familiarity with science teaching at the bachelor level in an international college setting would be considered an asset when applying;
  • Post-doctoral experience would be considered an asset when applying.

What we offer
As a Lecturer in Chemistry
at the Faculty of Science & Engineering, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:
  • Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 11 according to UFO profile Assistant Professor 2, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €4492,00 and €6148,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 1.0 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract. Your development goals will also allow you to grow further to the position of assistant professor level 1.
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.

Department
The Maastricht Science Programme (MSP) is a highly selective bachelor’s degree programme in the natural sciences, situated in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. At MSP, we follow the tradition of the Liberal Arts and Sciences, with an emphasis on student-centred learning in a small-scale college community using problem-based learning principles. Our student-centred learning is characterized by the opportunity for students to build their own curriculum in the natural sciences, intensive staff-student interactions in small groups, community building, extracurricular activities and personal guidance. The programme is taught in English. The Maastricht Science Programme has experienced continuous growth since its start in 2011. Currently, more than 600 students from over 50 countries are enrolled in our programme. We are located on the Randwyck campus in Maastricht.
