Maastricht University’s Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences is looking for a cluster head for its new FASoS Teaching & Learning Hub. The FASoS Teaching & Learning Hub is currently being developed to become the faculty’s go-to place for teaching and learning practice. Bringing together faculty support staff and academic staff, the Hub will be committed to quality educational support, policy and research and will offer a platform for relevant experimentation and exploration.

Job Description
As the new cluster head, you will play a central role in the development of the FASoS Teaching & Learning Hub, in close cooperation with the faculty’s associate dean for education and the faculty’s managing director. You will be the line manager for the support staff members in the Hub. The cluster head ensures an adequate distribution of tasks within the Hub, conducts performance interviews and supports our staff’s professional development. You will also be primary contact person for all staff members who contribute to the Hub’s work.

You will closely work with colleagues from the various clusters of the Faculty Office, as well as with the programme directors and other members of the academic staff. In addition, the cluster head also participates in internal consultation bodies and, where needed, represents the faculty in consultation meetings involving (inter)national universities and organisations, such as the Dutch Ministry of Education and UNL (the association of Dutch universities).

The new cluster head will contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the faculty’s strategic policy on teaching and learning. You will help to translate strategic goals into concrete initiatives, taking into account legislative frameworks, quality standards, relevant external developments, as well as workload of faculty staff. This includes formulating policy proposals, (impact) analyses, prognoses and evaluations. The new cluster head is expected to keep track of (inter)national developments and research relevant for the organisation.

The position of cluster head of the new FASoS Teaching & Learning Hub requires a combination of managerial skills and content expertise:
  • The ability to work and think at an academic level, reflected in at least 3-5 years of relevant professional experience;
  • Experience in managing a team and experience or willingness to develop a new faculty cluster;
  • The ability to interact with people from different layers of an organisation, and beyond;
  • A professional, analytical mind-set with a style of leadership that is transparent and supportive;
  • Knowledge of and experience with functioning in a dynamic administrative-policymaking environment;
  • Knowledge of legislation and regulations relevant for teaching, learning and research in Higher Education;
  • The ability to work in a structured and plan-based fashion;
  • The ability to perform in a goal-oriented way, also under pressure of time and in stressful situations;
  • Excellent skills in providing and receiving feedback;
  • Communication skills in English and Dutch, both orally and in writing;
  • A well-developed competency for learning, including a propensity for self-reflection.

What we offer
As a Cluster head Teaching & Learning Hub at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:
  • Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 12 according to UFO profile Afdelingshoofd, function level 2 with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from € 5,247 and € 6,737 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 1.0 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract.
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences FASoS is a close-knit community of approximately 250 staff members and 2100 students. During breaks and before meetings, you can often find us at our favourite local coffee spot Bandito Espresso.
