Job description

Within HiPerNav, an European ITN network, young researchers will be trained to become internationally leading in key areas of expertise through a novel, coordinated plan of individual research projects addressing specific bottlenecks in soft tissue navigation. The scientific and clinical goal of HiPerNav is to develop a navigation platform for management of liver cancer and metastases treatment to improve the eligibility and prognosis for liver surgical procedures and ablation treatment, enabling an integral management of surgical workflow: (1) pre-operative surgical planning; (2) intra-operative resection navigation and ablation monitoring; (3) post-operative quality control. By providing researchers with knowledge and training within specific topics – such as minimally invasive treatment, biomedical engineering, research methodologies, innovation and entrepreneurship – the link between academic research and industry will be strengthened. Your goal within this project will be to select, develop and apply sensors and methods for automatic detection of workflow parameters. This will be the basis of the further workflow and interface developments for surgical procedures in HiPerNav.

Requirements

Applicants should have the following qualifications:

  • An MSc in electrical and/or computer engineering, informatics, medical cybernetics, biophysics, mechanical engineering, physics, or mathematics is particularly relevant.
  • Strong academic record with a weighted average grade of master’s courses in the top segment.

Special interest and competence in development of technology for workflow sensing and recording, improved image guided patient diagnostics and therapy, practical experience with research methods, and R&D work at research institutes, universities and/or the health sector are advantageous.
We emphasise collaborative skills, initiative, ability to accomplish tasks, practical skills, and ability to create and establish new projects in collaboration with colleagues.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 13 months.
