This is a part-time position (0.3-0.4 FTE) in the RPWDE section. The Professor will be the lead of the Ports and Waterways group and will be responsible for the further development of its research and educational portfolio. It is expected that the candidate can establish a strong link with the engineering practice and should therefore hold another part-time position in a field relevant for this chair, preferably in a port/waterways-related organisation. The key characteristics and responsibilities include further development and execution of the educational programme, supervision of MSc and PhD students, formulation of research programmes and acquisition of funding, providing services to society and professional networks, valorisation of research products, and management within the broader organisation.

The successful candidate has a PhD or comparable portfolio in civil engineering or a closely related field, has a high level of expertise in fuctional design and engineering of port infrastructure and waterways, has a drive to innovate through scientific research and education, and has the capacity to communicate effectively in both Dutch and English. In addition, the candidate has a very good national and international network which covers the industry, government, and the scientific world.

Fixed-term contract: 5 years.

The Ports and Waterways group is part of the Rivers, Ports, Waterways and Dredging Engineering (RPWDE) section, interconnecting expertise on rivers, waterways, navigability, port operations, and dredging. The section is responsible for the educational programme for the specialisation RPWDE within the Hydraulic Engineering (MSc Civil Engineering) track. The research activities of the Ports and Waterways group focus on port design, vessel-waterway interactions, logistics, and design of terminal infrastructure, safety, and waterway traffic management.
